The mayor had spent all day preparing the ball room for his wife's event.
Gabriel, Adrien and Nathalie had spent the day getting ready.
"Nathalie"
Gabriel called his assistants name as he lightly knocked on the bathroom door.
"are you ready? Adrien and i will be heading down now."
"i will meet you both down there"
she called back.
and with that Gabriel left.the party was now in full swing, Gabriel and Adrien had seated themselves at a table, waiting for Nathalie to arrive.
"wow, she looks beautiful"
Adrien uttered.
Gabriel turned his gaze in the same direction as his son.
Walking down the stairs was Nathalie.
Gone was her usual bun, her hair was now in curls, falling softly down onto her shoulders, the red streak flamboyant against the dark curls.
Her dress trailed gently across the floor, the slit stopping just below her thigh. The dark blue colour reflecting the dress she once wore as Mayura.
Gabriel couldn't take his eyes off her.
"Nathalie, you look beautiful."
Adrien greeted her with a smile.
As she was about to respond, the live singer had announced a mother - son dance.
"So?"
Adrien held his hand out to Nathalie.
"shall we? a son can't exactly dance without his mother."
Nathalie smiled as she took the young models hand as they headed towards the dance floor.
Gabriel had finally shook himself out of his trance as he watched them dance.
Adrien was right, she truly looked beautiful. As Adrien and Nathalie danced a familiar song started to play.
"Nathalie, i hope you don't mind if i got ask Marinett to dance?"
Nathalie smiled.
"of course not Adrien."
and with that, he ran off to find his "friend"
leaving Nathalie alone with her thoughts on the dance floor.
her thoughts however were broken as a man coughed behind her.
"may i have this dance?"
Nathalie smiled at the familiar voice and turned to face her boss.
"of course, Sir."
Gabriel took Nathalie's hand in his placing his other at her waist as they slowly began to dance to the music.
Gabriel couldn't help but smile at her.
"how about we go get some air?"
Nathalie asked once the music came to an end, knowing how stressed these events could make her boss.
Gabriel nodded in response, as they walked to a nearby balcony.
Nathalie rested her arms on the ledge as Gabriel stood beside her, arms folded behind his back.
"it's beautiful, isn't it?"
Nathalie softly spoke as she gazed up at the night sky. The stars softy twinkling in the reflection of her glasses.
"it really is"
Gabriel replied with a smile. but he wasn't looking at the stars.
no.
he was looking at her.
Nathalie turned he gaze towards Gabriel, smiling softly at him.
He reached his hand out, tucking her shorter hair strand back into place, his hand remaining on her cheek.
She softly rested her face into his touch.
"Adrien was right, you really do look beautiful tonight, Nathalie. You should wear your hair down more often."
He spoke softly.
"That wouldn't be very practical for office work, Sir. Having to deal with Audrey is stressful enough, i don't need my hair falling into my face to make the matter worse."
Gabriel let out a small laugh at her reply.
He removed his hand from her face, but his eyes remained on her.
He was drowning in her eyes, afraid he wouldn't be able to come up for air.
it wasn't until she turned her gaze back to the sky that he felt the oxygen returning to his lungs once more.
Gabriel also turned his gaze to the stars.
Looking in awe at the constellations above them.
"we were written in the stars, my love."
He began to speak softly. Nathalie slowly turning to look at him, but he didn't return her gaze, his eyes remained fixed on the stars.
"All that separated us was time, yet here we are, the past is the past. i am sorry it took so long for me to realise, Nathalie."
Nathalie smiled at his words, a faint blush appearing on her cheeks.
"Sir?"
Gabriel turned to face her, his hand once again resting on her cheek, the other on her waist.
" my dearest, Nathalie, please forgive me and please"
He leaned in closer to her.
"stop calling me sir."
their eyes fluttered close as their lips met.
The kiss may have lasted for only a few seconds but to Nathalie, it lasted a life time.
Once they separated both returned their gaze to the sky.
Nathalie began to shiver under the cold breeze until she felt a warmth being wrapped around her shoulders.
Gabriel had removed his blazer and placed it around her, keeping his arm on her waist, holding her close to him.
She rested her head against his shoulder.
Gabriel looked down at her.
Nathalie gazed up at him.
"i'm sorry it took so long for us to get here, Nathalie i- i am sorry for everything i put you through."
"don't be sorry, Gabriel. i would do it all again for you to be happy, and that's all i want, for you and Adrien to be happy."
she placed her hand on his chest, feeling the fast beat of his heart.
"and i am, my dear."
he placed his hand upon hers.
"in this moment with you, i feel nothing but it."
