Birthdays and I will miss you

Ellie's POV

Today was Joes birthday party and we are at his family house in Bath for a garden party. I was staying the night so I bought my stuff.

"Hi" I greeted his dad as he opened the door.

"Hi. Everyone's out back" he smiled gesturing me to come in. As he had said.

"Ellie!" Zoe said wrapping her arms around me.

"Hi. So where's the birthday boy?" I asked. She pointed over to Joe and his manager Dom. Joe looked excited.

"He's talking to Dombledor" she smiled walking over to Alfie. I stood there and waited for Joe to finish then ran over and hugged him tightly.

"Happy birthday-you're old now" I smiled. He chuckled.

"You're almost this age!" He laughed a little grouchy.

"So what did Dom want" I asked interlipocking our fingers together.

"I will tell you after the party. OK?" He sighed.

"Oki Doki" I said trying to cheer him up a little.

"Um yh...see you later" he said walking away. Have I done something?

"Alfie where's Zoe?" I asked, I needed to ask her of Joe was OK.

"She's just gone to her room" he smiled. I nodded going into the house. I was stopped by a few of Joes family intruducung themselves.

"Oh Ellie wassup?" Zoe asked as I entered her room.

"Um, is Joe ok. He seems a bit distracted" I sighed.

"I'm sure he'll tell you if you ask" she said leaving the room. I sighed going back down to the party.

*AFTER PARTY*

Everyone had gone apart from Zoe, Alfie amd Joes dad so I decided to ask Joe what was wrong.

"Joe?" I asked tapping his shoulder. He turned around immediately and wrapped his arms around me.

"How are you at long distance relationships?" He asked pulling away and looking me in the eye.

"Um I have never had one" I mumbled.

"Oh. Dom has asked me to go to Africa with Caspar for a few months, but it could be a year, for charity" he said "obviously I'm going to go but..."

"But you won't be able to do a long distance relationship?" Tears were forming in my eyes.

"No, I mean we can try but I won't be that contactable because of signal." He sighed.

"So you want us to take a break?" I said tears pouring down my face. Gentley, he wiped them away.

"Maybe" he whispered

"Bu...but we can try right?" I stuttered

"I don't think there's a way..." He croaked tears in his eyes.

"I guess I will go grab my stuff and leave then, I can't stay the night not anymore" I shouted angrily running into the house.

"Ellie..." He shouted but I ignored him. When I entered Zoe's room, where my stuff was her and Alfie stood up.

"What's wrong Els?" Zoe asked.

"Ask your stinking brother!" I screamed storming out. I walked all the way to the train station. Why couldn't we try? I loved Joe but now I'm thinking he doesn't love me. It's not that hard to try and I'm sure we'd be fine. Suddenly, I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Ellie?"
