No one's pov

The third day of golden week went by smoothly. Just normal practices and occasional bitching between the teams using the gym. Tomorrow would be yet another match against a powerhouse school. All of Nekoma were looking forward to it, until the sun began to set into nightfall the night before.

. . .

Y/N's pov

"Awe man we're screwed!! I'm SO not looking forward to tomorrow." Yamamoto cried after hearing Y/N's answer to Kuroo's question, which was what team they'd be playing tomorrow.

"Man up Yamamoto! You're the so called ace. Start acting like it." Inuoka teased with Kenma, who surprised wasn't playing his video game.

"Come on guys, it won't be the end of the world. Just treat it like yesterday's game, yeah?" Yaku attempted to lift their sprits, which seemed to work on only a few of the members.

"Seijoh's captain told me that they practice against college teams for normal practices...you call that not the end of the world?!" Kuroo protested against the libero. Which earned him a huff from the short boy.

"It's a stepping stone to learn where your skills fall..." I say a bit to loud. Everyone was silent before turning to me, "you're so smart Y/N! Though I keep forgetting you're even apart of the team" Yamamoto blurts out, others silently agreeing.

'Gee thanks...'

. . .

It was the next morning. My team and I were once again setting up the reserved gym. Half way through, the door was opened to reveal two members from the Seijoh team. It was Oikawa and Iwaizumi.

"The hell you guys here for?!" Yamamoto and Kuroo questioned at the same time.

"Ouch, rude~" Oikawa began, "We've come to cheer for the cute number eight of yours~"

Before anyone could respond, Iwa smacked the flirtatious boy, "ouch Iwa-chan..."

"As much as we'd like to cheer for you, we're actually here cause the captain of the team you're going against asked us to be the linemen for this match." Iwaizumi corrected.

"Ooo fun, don't cheat us out pretty boy!~" someone said from behind me, it was either Yamamoto or Inuoka, but I could be wrong.

. . .

Shiratorizawa Academy's team had finally arrived, they were already sweating to it's obvious they ran here.

Both teams line up after the coaches share a few words.

"Well I feel a bit uncomfortable..." I thought out loud as the whole Shiratorizawa seemed to be looking down upon me. Next to me was Yaku who silently replied to what I stayed, "yeah...I know what you mean"

'He just admitted he's short!'

"Who was the boy I talked to on the phone?!" Their coach demanded an answer which threw a cold chill down my back. Surprisingly my entire team backed far away from me, leaving me standing there alone. All eyes were now directed at me.

The tall guy wearing the number one jersey walked up to me. He has one hell of a stern stare. He offered a hand for me to shake, so I did so. He told me his name and gave his thanks on behalf of his team. Just as he lets go of my hand, his coach stalked closer to me, ordering his team to begin warm ups.

In the distance I could hear someone mutter something to their captain when he rejoined his team. "Bruh, the two of you could be some lost siblings with your guys' stares alone, and I wouldn't even question it!" The captain and I sighed after hearing it, though only their coach heard me.

"I must say I'm surprised to see a girl on their team. I wasn't expecting a manager to get me to agree to having a match to be honest. You're short btw. You shouldn't have joined their team. This will just be another waste of time. Good luck trying to keep up with us though!" He than walked off with a huff.

I stand there questioning my existence for a bit, 'oh you're on!'

. . .

They kicked our butts in the first match easily. I sat out observing with Yuki. Apparently we were curious about similar things because we traded information before every time out.

It's now the second set and I'm in for Kei again. Everyone including their libero is really tall. Yaku patted my shoulder as I got to my spot.

Their coach stifled a laugh at me while his team gave questioning glances towards me. I chose to ignore them and keep a level head.

After picking up the lefty's serve on my first try, their team seemed to be off their game out of surprise. Which my team took advantage of. I ended up getting six points on serves because I aimed them right, but their libero was pretty alright and got it up eventually.

Nekoma won the second set, not by winning colors, but was enough to get a reaction out of their coach. He yelled at their team like the rude old man he was before pointing at me whispering. 'I have a bad feeling about this...'

The score was 12-9, with us on top.

And that's when that gut feeling hit me physically. Their coach had them purposely lure Kuroo and I into blocking that one hit. We had collided, with me being hit in the face by his elbow. I fell and landed on the court facing the floor due to me turning midair. The ball landed near my head before bouncing away.

That's when everything seemed to stop. Blood ran down the side of my face and my nose due to the impact. Yuki seemed to see it all play out and had rushed over to me with a towel in hand.

I was subbed out, and rushed out of the gym with Yuki helping me to the outside sinks.

. . .

Our team lost the third and last set. Both teams were cleaning the gym when I came back in with Yuki who was carrying the first aid box that coach Naoi brought us.

"Y/N!!" Yaku and Shohei ran up to me. They checked my eyesight and made sure I was ok, being the caring guys they were.

"Volleyball girl," Shiratorizawa's ace walked over with the red headed middle blocker, "sorry about your injury, we didn't mean for it to be so bad."

"Ushijiwaka~you weren't supposed to spill, tho I too feel bad! Even if it was fun" the red head known as Satori turns to me, "sorry we hurt you, but it was fun playing against you! Let's play again some time~"

. . .

The teams left the gym and Nekoma was now having dinner before we headed back to clean ourselves up.

"I can't believe them!"
"Right?! How can one do all of that with a straight face?!"

The team was having some kind of argument that I wasn't paying all that much attention to. I was kinda zoning out at the time.

. . .

Everyone was asleep in the room while I walked around outside. It seemed just like yesterday that I started going to Nekoma...

I was lost in my many thoughts when I felt a presence nearby. It was Kuroo. He walked up to me not saying a word. I glanced at him before looking back at the sky. It was the first time I noticed the many stars.

"Can't sleep? Or just lost in thought?" He asked.

I glanced at him again and he was starring at the sky, "I have trouble falling asleep." I confessed. He gave me a shocked look.

"Is that an everyday thing or just a tonight thing?"

I laughed a bit, "every" I answered before looking back at the sky. It feels calming.

"That must suck. Little sleep sounds horrible." He chuckles, "well at least try and get some rest, we have to go against Karasuno tomorrow." He walks away after placing his jacket on my shoulders.

'Maybe I can belong here...'

. . .

Thank you, have a nice day/night.
