"NingNing! Dinner is ready!"

I silently descended down the stairs.

My senses got filled by the delicious smell of the food.

She looked especially lovely.

I sat beside her and took out a small box from my pocket.

Her vision caught sight of it.

She had a curious smile on her face.

"What is that?"

I straightened myself.

"A gift."

"For..? Are you perhaps dating someone? Who is the lucky boy?"

I let out a chuckle.

"Stop teasing me. It's for you."

Her eyes widened.

"....For me?" I opened the box for her to let her see what was inside.

It was a small diamond pendant in the shape of a leaf.

Her smile dropped a little. She lifted up the jewelry.

"This....must be expensive, Ningie. You didn't need t-"

I put a finger on her mouth.

"Shush. It's nothing compared to the amount of love you give me, mum. And I worked extra shifts for this so it's just additional money I got."

Mother had an unreadable expression on her face.  "Oh Hyuka."

A little unexpectedly, she put her arms around me in a tight hug.

"Okay now I am hungry! Where's my tteokbokki?"

"Oh yes, I almost forgot."

The front door barged open.

We knew who it was.

Mother took the box from my hand and hid it in her pocket.

"Hyuka go upstairs right now."

"What? Why?"

"NingNing plea-"

After growing up, Mother never let me stay around her when my father was home.

But today I wasn't going to hide away.

"Oh look who's here!" The disgusting laugh resounded through out the house.
