Chapter 15
Ella's POV
It has been one week and a half since I have seen Owen. He has not been on set due to them filming the Julie and Luke dance sequence. I haven't been needed either, but I still would come to set and visit everyone. Not him; he has been a ghost lately. If I am being honest with myself, I feel like there is a small hole in my chest that only he could fill. It was a terrible ache, and I despised the feeling.
I opened my eyes and took a deep breath, willing myself to stop obsessing. It was currently two in the afternoon, and I was getting ready to see Charlie and Jeremy. Victoria and I were supposed to go to Charlie's place to hang out. I was secretly hoping that Owen would be present; it was wishful thinking. I knew he would find some excuse not to be there. Owen has been doing it a lot lately. He seemed to be only avoiding me, which was because of whatever Savannah told him.
I finished straightening my poofy hair and pulled it into a high ponytail. I fixed up my mascara and added a layer of lip gloss to my lips. What? I had to look semi-decent.
I called out to Vicky, "You almost ready to go, babe?"
"Yeah, I have been waiting on the couch for you this whole time, stupid."
I laughed. "Oops, I'm sorry." I strolled over to our couch in the living room. Victoria made an annoyed gesture with her face.
"What?" I questioned.
She sighed. "I'm waiting for you to help me up, duh."
I gave her my arm, so she could use it for support to pull herself off the couch. "Don't you look all cute? I forgot we were going to see your boyfriend."
I immediately dropped the arm she was using for support, and she fell back onto the couch. "Bitch."
I stuck out my tongue at her. "Fuck you; I was already upset."
Her demeanour suddenly changed. "Owen."
All she had to do was say his name for my eyes to begin watering. Vicky pulled me onto the couch as I buried my face in the crook of her neck. She calmly whispered, "You did nothing wrong, Ella, don't you dare think for one second that you did." I tried to interrupt her, but she continued. "Listen to me, I am going to find out what Savanah said, and I am going to kick her ass, then kick Joyner's ass. Okay? Does that sound good to you?"
I merely nodded into her neck. "Come on, let's go. We need to cheer you up. What else is better than seeing that goofy Canadian."
I smirked.
After arriving at Charlie's apartment, even though I knew he wasn't going to be there, I was still met with disappointment. I brushed it off.
Halfway through the comedic movie we were watching, Vic pulled away from the group to answer a call. I wonder who it was? I pulled my focus back to the film. That's when I noticed Charlie had his hand near mine, his palm was facing up to the sky. He wanted me to hold his hand.
I placed my hand in his, and we intertwined our fingers. Just then, he looked at me, like really looked at me. "Ma petite pâtisserie, what's wrong?"
I was too sad to even comment on the nickname he wasn't supposed to use. "I am fine, Char. You don't have to worry."
"That's the problem, Ella. I am always going to worry about you; I can't help it."
I buried my face in my hands and breathed out.
He shook his head. "Come here." He pulled me into his arms as I rested my face on his chest. He proceeded to speak, "When you are ready, you can tell me. I'll always be here for you." He kissed my forehead, causing butterflies to erupt in my stomach.
I wish I could unburden myself to him, but I couldn't, for obvious reasons that start with the letter O and end with the letter N.
About 15 minutes later, Vicky came back into the room. "El, can you come here for a second."
I got up from the couch, leaving Charlie's tight embrace and walked over to Vic, who was now standing in the kitchen.
She gave me a massive grin. I gave her a confused gaze. "Why are you smiling like that?"
She happily cheered. "I think you owe me a thank you."
"What for?"
"Well, besides being the best friend ever, I just found out, well actually Madison found out, what Satan's spawn said to Owen."
My mouth fell to the floor. "No fucking way! How?"
"Well, I called Madi freaking the fuck out about the whole Sav/Owen dilemma before we left, and then Madi started to freak out. Also, she got mad that you didn't tell her. Anywho, we came up with this whole plan on how to extract the information from Sav. It turns out we didn't even need the plan. As Madi was making her way to the makeup trailer, she spotted Savanah and a dancer whispering to each other. She leaned in closer and bam, what do you know? They were laughing about how clueless you are and what she said to Owen."
I was struggling to breathe. What the fuck. I was so scared. "Well?"
"Her exact words were, 'She is going to break your heart just like Freya did.'"
"That's what she told him? Who the hell is Freya?"
"If I had to guess, I would say an ex of his."
I knew what I had to do—some healthy snooping. If I could go through some of Owen's stuff, maybe I would find the answers I was looking for. "Vicky, go back and watch the movie. Make sure no one comes after me."
She looked me straight in the eyes. "You are totally snooping. I approve."
I gave her a nod. She turned on her heel and walked back into the living room.
Owen's room was exactly how it was the last time I saw it, messy. I rummaged through his things, trying to find some well-deserved answers. I searched and searched and searched. I almost gave up when that's when I noticed it, peaking out from under his bed was the brown cardboard box labeled 'garbage' I saw under his bed a few months ago.
Holy shit.
I searched through it and found a picture frame. Inside the frame was a picture of Owen with his arms around a beautiful brunette girl.
Freya.
