I slapped him.
He was stunned for a moment- a very brief moment.
Tears were brimming around my eyes.
"H-how could you..."
He scoffed at the words that came out of my mouth.
"I b-believed y-y-your lies..."
"It was your choice."
"B-but the promises, the kis-"
He laid a finger on my lips.
"The sweetest lies hurt the most, my dear."
It's been forty-eight hours.
Flashbacks have been flooding and recurring in my mind.
It feels like a drug.
I always try to hold on but end up grasping air.
The happiness from these memories are too brief.
Life has been sucked out of me.
I don't know if I can go on.
His absence left a black hole.
I'd die for his oh-so-sweet lies.
I need them to linger in my ear.
I don't know, I don't know.
It's been 1461 days- four whole years.
Four whole years without him.
A raindrop trails down my cheek.
One may mistake it for a tear.
But, no.
I've confined my heart- locked it up and threw away the key.
Since our bittersweet time together, I've changed.
And I'm here to thank him for that.
The front door creaks.
My boots leave a wet imprint on the musty carpet.
The carpet that I bought.
No, I mustn't dwell on the past.
I clear my throat.
"Zelo?"
Silence.
If he is still the same, the silence means that he is hungover from a 'rough' night.
I face the door of the bedroom that holds so many memories.
Memories that wretches, and at the same time elates, my heart.
I lay my hand on the brass doorknob.
The icy coldness of it shoots through my arm.
Just as I recover from that tiny shock, I receive one more- one which easily breaks the defense system I have taken the time and effort to build for myself.
A face that I have avoided for years finally enters my vision.
"You."
His voice enters my ear.
It's rougher and deeper than before.
The tone of his voice is neither friendly or cold.
"H-hi"
I lamely get that statement out of my mouth.
"What are you doing here."
His intonation doesn't indicate it as a question.
