Promises (A HanakoXNene fan-fiction)

Chapter Two:

It had been a couple of days since their talk at the window, and Nene and Hanako acted exactly the same they always did, Nene would clean the bathrooms, and Hanako would tease her. But something changed...Everytime Nene finished cleaning the bathrooms they would both go and sit by the window, just to talk about things.

"So, you've been acting strange lately" Hanako said with a questioning tone.

"Huh?" Nene responded, knowing full well that she had been acting strange. She just didn't want Hanako to know why...

"At least around me..." Hanako said look off, and out the window. "You stutter a lot more, and your face is always red...Are you feeling okay?" Hanako looked back at Nene looking worried.

"Y-yes! I f-feel fine!" Nene stuttered, and turned beet red

"See! There you go! Blushing and stuttering!" Hanako said, still completely oblivious as to why this would be.

"I- I have just been kind of stressed lately! Way too much homework" Nene said, hoping to cover up what she was feeling.

"Oh! Do you need help?" Hanako asked, "I may be a ghost, but I am CRAZY good at math!" Hanako smiled and motioned to Nene's bag.

Nene panicked- She had already finished all the homework, "Uhh nope! Aoi said she was going to help me with it later!" Nene said quickly, before picking up her bag. "Speaking of which I should get going!" Nene picked up her bag and quickly left the school.

"Huh...? Is she okay...?" Hanako asked himself watching Nene slow down outside the school and walk off. He wasn't sure if he had done something wrong, or if she just needed space...

The next day Nene walked into the bathroom, she took a deep breath and set her bag down to find Hanako staring out the window at the end of the bathroom. She was slightly worried, he looked completely lost in thought. His golden eyes twinkling, and for a second Nene almost thought he was...crying? But when she blinked there was his classic smirk, almost as if she had imagined his watery eyes.

"Hello Miss Yashiro! Right on time I see!" Hanako said, just like he always did.

"Yup!" Nene said smiling, and started cleaning up the bathrooms, but Hanako didn't joke about how she was cleaning the bathrooms, or make a comment about her uniform being dirty, or even tease her. It was just quiet as she mopped the floors.

"Are you alright?" Nene was getting worried, maybe she hadn't imagined it...Maybe he was really sad...

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?" Hanako said, curious as to why she's asking.

"Well you always tease me when I'm cleaning." Nene muttered, "I mean always..." Nene put down the mop and looked at Hanako.

Hanako was confused "I thought you didn't like me teasing you?" He asked, "You always groan and complain about it"

Nene was shocked, was this why he was sad? "No! I-" She cut herself off before she could finish.

"You?" Hanako questioned.

"I like it... It always makes me laugh, because..." Nene sighed. "Because I know you don't mean it, and so it just makes me laugh" Nene said. "I'm sorry I complain so much, but that's kind of my way of teasing you back!"

Hanako smiled so big, He hadn't been hurting her. "I'm so glad!" He was about to make fun of how dirty her uniform was, when he remembered why he had thought what he did in the first place, "Then why have you been acting so off? You have been avoiding me a little more, and stuttering, and blushing!" He said confused as ever, "And...Lying. Aoi never helped you with your homework. You helped her."

Nene looked at Hanako intently and then sighed. "I am so sorry Hanako...I should have just been honest with you from the beginning..."

Hanako looked at Nene and asked, "What's going on?"

"Hanako..." Nene had tears welling up in her eyes.

Hanako was incredibly worried at this point, what was she going to tell him... "You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

"Hanako- I-" Nene paused for a moment to think, "I've been really lonely lately." She lied, looking up at Hanako.

"Really?" Hanako looked at her with worry in his eyes, "I'm sorry, have I made it worse?" Hanako questioned, wondering what this had to do with her avoiding him.

"No! I just- have been more quiet recently because of this! You haven't done anything wrong Hanako." Nene smiled at him.

Hanako wasn't sure that this was what was going on...But he didn't want to push it any longer. "Well alright!" He smiled, then grabbed the mop and pushed it towards her "You aren't done Mopping, Miss Yashiro"

Nene happily grabbed the mop, and kept mopping the floor.
