The girl drifts towards Trevor and I. I notice that she has a sad look on her face. Her dog follows her, looking equally sad.
"What happened," I ask them," and where's Amelia?" The girl stares at the ground.
"She left," she finally says. Those words hit me so hard, I I haven't known Amelia for that long, but I still thought that she would never just leave us. I look at the ground. I wasn't sad, but I was angry. Angry at Amelia. How she just left us here, with no way out. I'd trusted her. Was our friendship just a big joke to her? I look around, hoping to see some sign of Amelia. There was only her ring.
"We don't need Amelia," I tell the others, "we can do this ourselves," The girl turns around.
"I'm Rebecca by the way," she says through a wide smile.
"Sorry, we forgot to ask what your name was,"
"That's ok Rocky and Trevor," says Rebecca.
"How do you know our names?" I ask her. Rebecca flushes a deep magenta and twirls her hair around her fingers.
"Umm, didn't you say?" she asks. I don't remember introducing ourselves, but maybe we did.
"I know how to get out of here," says Rebecca, "You need to return the flute to the master." She points to the flute sticking out of my pocket. Oh, that's what the flute is for. But I still have one question.
"Who's the master anyway?"I ask Rebecca. Rebecca has a puzzled look on her face. It's like she's trying to figure out the best way to say it.
"Well," she says, "The master is the ruler of the spirit realm." She pauses and looks around.
"We need to get out of here!" she exclaims. She flies out of the chamber at high speed. Trevor and I rush after her. Dark blue rocks were in place of the opening.
"Ghost Rock," says Rebecca. She had a serious look on her face.
"If it's a rock," begins Trevor, "shouldn't we be able to go through it?" Rebecca rolls her eyes dramatically.
"It's a Ghost Rock Einstein," she says annoyed," we can't go through it."
Rebecca leads us through the dark tunnels of the spirit world.
"Is this place all tunnels?" I ask Rebecca. She shakes her head. Her curls floating from side to side.
"It's very much like the human world," she says, "these tunnels are designed to look like the underground." As we exit the Ghost Underground, we enter a beautiful shopping center. It had clothing stores, restaurants, and even a playground, where little ghost kids ran around and socialized.
We pass a ghost school.
"How do plants make their food?" asks the teacher.
"PHOTOSYNTHESIS!" the class yells.
It made me a little emotional to see all those kids that had died so young. I pretend to tie my shoes, so I can wipe my eyes in secret. I see the ring that Amelia gave me the day we met. It took me a little longer to "tie my shoes" then I thought it would. We stop at a quaint buffet and eat lunch.
"What's wrong Rocky?" Rebecca asks soothingly. I shrug. I didn't want to talk about Amelia. Or anything that was on my mind. Trevor leaves to take Bella for a walk over to the pet store to get her some food, leaving Rebecca and me at the table alone. Rebecca tries to start up a conversation, but I just sat and stirred my soup. Ever since Amelia left, I felt empty. Even though we haven't been friends for too long, it feels like we've known each other forever. Rebecca orders an ice cream and moves closer to me.
"You're missing her aren't you?" she asks in a sweet voice. I sigh.
"Yea, "I say, relieved to have someone to open up to. Rebecca is an open person. She always knows what advice you need, and when you need it.
"It's just, I never expected her to just leave like that," I say, "I mean she seemed so excited to come with us..." that moment left me speechless. Rebecca had kissed me. And I had kissed her back.
