I was blushing. My entire face was beet red. It's amazing how you can see the color of your own face when you're a ghost. Rebecca giggled. She holds my hands in hers.
"You don't have to be upset over Amelia, Rocky," she tells me. Rebecca takes my hands and holds them in hers. She smiles at me.
"She chooses her path," she says, "and you can choose yours."
Rebecca and I walk out of the buffet, hand in hand, and meet Trevor outside. He doesn't question our sudden change of behavior.
"It's getting dark," said Rebecca, "we can stay the night at my place. You must be pretty tired." I realized, Rebecca's right. I was pretty tired. I hadn't slept for over 24 hours. We follow Rebecca into a small housing development. Her place was the first one on the left. She holds the door open for us, and we enter a homey foyer. Rebecca leads us up the stairs to the only bedroom. Even though Rebecca lived alone, she had multiple beds. Three to be exact. The reason why was a mystery. Trevor slumped over and fell asleep almost instantly. I, on the other hand, sit on my bed, wide awake. Even though I was very tired. I thought Rebecca was asleep to until she comes over to my bed.
"What's wrong Rocky," she asks me, a look of concern etched on her face.
"I'm just...I'm just worried about Amelia," I say. I look down at the silver ring she had given me the first time we met.
"What's that?" Rebecca asks me. It sat there for a moment, trying to figure out how to explain the ring to her. Should I tell her that it's mine, or Amelia's?
"Umm, Amelia gave this to me when we first met," I decide to tell her. Rebecca suddenly has a new look on her face. A look of hatred, jealousy.
"Amelia, huh?" she says angrily. I nod, not wanting to cause any trouble.
"Well if it's Amelia's ring, it can't be that important," she says. I stare at her, bewildered at how mean she was being.
"I mean," she says hastily," she left you here, alone. You don't need this anymore," Rebecca slides the ring off my finger and puts it on the bedside table.
"Get some rest," she says. Rebecca kisses me on the cheek and goes to sleep.
When I wake up it's dark. I wondered if I had even slept at all! Then, I realized that Rebecca was already awake. During the night, Trevor had somehow transitioned himself from his bed to the floor. I suddenly realize that I'm missing my family. My parents, my sister Macie, and my brother Kyle. I wondered if they miss me, or even notice that I'm gone.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," calls Rebecca from the kitchen. She was busy frying eggs and bacon in a pan. The aroma was overwhelming. Rebecca turns away from the stove and gives me a hug. My stomach growls. I blush, embarrassed.
"It sounds like someone's hungry," she says giggling. I nod, licking my lips. I sit down at the breakfast table, and Rebecca puts a steaming plate of scrambled eggs and bacon with fluffy pancakes, topped with syrup and a mountain of whipped cream. I grab some silverware and wolf down my food.
"MMM," I say with my mouth full. Rebecca sits at the table. She picks up a silver fork and takes a bite of her pancake. After Rebecca, Bella, Trevor, and I finish our breakfast, we set off to find our way out.
"Here we are," says Rebecca. She leads us through large double doors, and I'm shocked at what's inside.
