It was your fifth year, and the marauders were best friends, as they had been since the first year when you sat down a compartment and tried to catch your chocolate frog dashing up and down the compartment.
Two boys with an equally mischievous look came in and claimed to be your "heroes" that is until the one with long dark hair started screaming his head off when the frog landed on his face. The one with shorter brown hair and bulky glasses eventually calmed his screaming friend, and introduced himself.
"Hi i'm James Potter, erm, can we sit here? We've been banned from our last two compartments.. Sirius turned their hair green."
"how'd you do that?" you asked in awe as Sirius sat down still catching his breath.
"a magician never reviles his secrets." His crossed his arms
"well good thing your a wizard then." you said crossing your arms as well
"I like her James!" he said "We can keep her as our own."
"i agree, what say you?"
"i say that you two are full of mischief and my mother would go ballistic if she knew i was hanging out with the likes of you," you smiled, " i say this is going to be a fun year."
a few moments later a boy with sandy brown hair a some small scars on his face came in, covering a boy who was a bit rounder than most with light blonde hair.
"WHOA! HOW'D YOU GET THOSE SCARS?! WERE YOU IN LIKE A WAR? THEY LOOK SO COOL! THEY LOOK LIKE BATTLE SCARS" Sirius and James exclaimed excitedly.
the boy with sandy brown hair blushed and looked down "no... I-I fell, off a tree when i was younger. Um, may... may i sit here? everywhere else is full and..."
"sure! the more the merrier!" James beckoned for them to come in
the sandy brown haired boy took a seat across from you and the the blonde one next to you.
"I'm Remus Lupin, and this is Peter, we only just met." Remus said after a short while of silence.
"nice to meet you peter, Remus." you nodded your head as Remus took out a small box of chocolate.
"chocolate frog anyone?" he said offering the box up, "I-I've got loads more too! i-if you were interested,"
"Thanks, but i think Sirius has a right phobia of them now."You said laughing and re-imagining the screaming from boy only moments ago. you could see Sirius's ego was hurt but he took the chocolate frog and stuffed it in his mouth without a word, or any hesitation.
then turned pale when it started to move in his mouth.
Now you were waiting on the Hogwarts express for them, the same compartment you had been in for the last four years.
"ahh sorry I'm late! i know! you don't have to scold me!"Remus rushed in, he had grown quite a bit since the last time you saw him. You frowned as more scars had appeared on his arms , legs and face.
"I wasn't going to scold you," you said, "i was going to hex you however."
"I wouldn't put it past you."Remus smiled and sat in his usual spot across from you. "also, you owe me five galleons."
"what?" you said knowing full well what he meant. you had made a bet at the end of fourth year that Sirius would forget to write, you disagreed and said he would remember ( after all he promised) and obviously lupin won.
"come on, pay up."
"but i-"
"y/n come on" he held his hand out
"fine. you know your a kill joy?" you sighed handing him the money as James Sirius and peter showed up shouting "i was first""no me!" "i was clearly first"
"try my best love." he winked and you rolled your eyes.
"i was clearly first here wasn't i (y/n)!"James whined
" no he's lying!" peter yelled
"obviously you believe me right?" Sirius pouted
"um actually i think James wrote to me tho most... so he was first, then peter, then Sirius, by the way how was your summer Sirius? You just lost me five galleons." he said as James triumphantly walked in and popped down next to you running his fingers through his hair naturally.
James put his arm around you "missed you." he smiled
"me too."
the train started to move swaying the cart back and forth, you were heading home, with your family. and honestly, you couldn't wait for the year to begin.
...
The sorting hat ceremony was loud and way overrated and you LOVED every second of it. Sirius got on James' back at one point to cheer on an incoming Gryffindor. and you weren't too far behind jumping on Remus' . Every new Gryffindor was another chance at the house cup, or another chance to loose the house cup. you honestly didn't know and that didn't stop the excitement form seeping into to your blood.
when the sorting was done MOUNTAINS of food filled the golden plates, from roast beef to rips, everything you could think of. the taste of it was so familiar and warming it melted in your mouth and you sighed.
"we've still got three years here... were not gone yet. " peter whispered.
"i know..."
"chin up yea?"
you gave a half smile to peter who was already eating his second plateful. the chattering and clanging of plates gave you a strange sort of security. you were even happy when the sorting hat song came on and the boys bellowed it so that every first year looked concerningly towards the middle of the table ( which was where you were sitting.) Over all it was a good night. classes started on Monday so you had the weekend to grasp onto the little summer you had, with your best of friends by your side.
"are you gonna eat that?" Remus said looking at your plate practically drooling
"all yours" you slide your plate over, you appetite was gone, but your spirit was high. this was gonna be a great year.
