Scattered across the glass table laid the photocopies of the Dread Doctors book, along with the original. With everything going on around us, this meeting made the issues out to be nothing more than a bock club story, which we would love to have been the reality.
"My mum's book club usually has more wine" Lydia mused looking over the table.
"Well, they also probably didn't read books that cause violent hallucinations" Isaac mumbled and Stiles nodded in agreement. It was nice to see the pair get along, for once, even just over a sentence.
"That's why Malia's here" Scott smiled at the werecoyote across the table from me.
"So none of us go running into traffic" Kira breathed out shakily.
I bit my lip remembering Malia's experience which Theo and her caught the group up on.
"Or worse..." I mumbled.
"Like what happened to Judy" Malia added. Everyone glanced up confused and concerned "Chapter 14" She clarified.
A moment passed before Lydia picked up the actual book and surveyed it. "Maybe I should have my mother read. She might remember a girl with a tail leaping off the ceiling and attacking everyone" The redhead joked casually.
"Hey, only if it works" Stiles clarified.
"... It has to" She replied.
"What does that mean?" Scott asked. I glanced between them as Lydia stared down at the book more intensely.
The redhead didn't speak for a moment before pursing her lips "I think I saw them during my surgery" We looked at her puzzled and so she continued "When I look at the cover of the book, it's almost like..."
"A memory trying to resurface" Theo finished and everyone's gaze snapped to him.
"Yeah"
"So they really can do something and we'd probably never know without reading this" I gulped, picking up one of the print outs.
"Isn't that what Valack wanted when he wrote it?" Kira questioned, already knowing the answer.
"If they did something to me, I wanna know what it is" Lydia stated, before moving away to read.
We all glanced to each other before following after her. Each of us gripping at the crackling paper with caution as if it would blow up if we weren't careful.
Everyone got comfortable and the table was almost empty, all but one copy taken. It's gloomy stare gazed up and was meet by the concerned view of Isaac's eyes.
"I'm still not sure about this" The curly haired beta spoke up. He didn't look to any of us. His eyes glued to the green paper.
"It'll be okay, they've probably seen not done anything and even then it's in the past" I reassured. There was still an awkward air around us, one that I wad sure the other had been feeling all too clear.
He didn't say anything in return, nor did he care to glance my way. I bit my lip and watched on the sofa as the cogs turned in his head.
He picked it up, the pack taking it as the green light to start reading.
And so it began. Hours of pages turning, the kettle boiling, a fresh batch of coffee, more pages crinkled, more kitchen racket and more coffee. My eyes ached and each page I read was more confusing than the latter. It was taking too long and none of it was making any sense.
I felt the room start to loose hope as the loud clicking of the clock carried on joined by the tired sighs of the pack.
"Anyone feeling anything yet?" Scott asked.
"Tired" Kira hummed.
"Hungry" Lydia added.
"I think he meant the book" Isaac spoke up.
I groaned, leaning back on the couch and closing my eyes for a moment. This was becoming more tiring than it was worth.
"You're not giving up already? Are you?" Theo teased, and I expect that stupid smirk was playing on his lips.
"Just resting my eyes" I mumbled back grumpily. God, this sofa was so comfy and warm.
"If it's too much, I could get someone to take you home" Scott mentioned, he's so kind.
I shook my head with a small smile and looked to him "I've told you already I'm basically all better now"
"Great" Isaac muttered sarcastically, and without my enhanced hearing I probably wouldn't of heard it.
I ignored the pang in my chest and focused my attention onto the book again.
A/n;
I've finished School finally (well in may)!! So I'm back and I'm gonna write smaller chapters to help me get more chapters out more frequently. (So from 1000/1500 words to 500/700 words)
Thank you for all the incredible support on these two books. It's crazy to see how far they've come (Like 60k reads on CH wtf!!!! <333)
Also while watching this episode I full on cried about Scott's old dog Roxy dying when he was like 6 😅
