EMILY'S POV

Its been 48 hours since Megan was taken, I was starting to lose hope. I haven't slept or eaten much in the last 2 days because I had been focusing on trying to get her back, I was basically living off of coffee. It was about 10:30 pm, I was sitting in the precinct conference room looking over files I'd been looking at for hours, I've basically memorized every page by now. The rest of the team went to their hotel rooms 2 hours ago, none of them know that I don't go to my hotel room at night and I stay at the precinct working.

It wasn't that I didn't want to sleep, it was the fact that I was afraid to. Megan moved into my apartment with me when she first arrived and we haven't been apart for more than 24 hours because we're always together. I was afraid to sleep in my hotel room alone, next to an empty bed that had Megan's suitcase and stuff on it.

I zoned out and stared at the wall across the table from me while leaning back in my chair. I sat like that just thinking about Megan for probably 20 minutes when I was interrupted by a knock on the door frame. JJ was standing in the doorway with a bag of Chinese food, she gave me that motherly look and walked over to me. She sat on the table next to my chair and said "I know you haven't eaten much so I got some food for us"

"JJ you didn't have to do that, I'm fine"

"Yes I did, you need food and sleep, I know you've been staying at the precinct all night"

"No I haven't, I just leave after everyone"

"Emily I don't want to argue about something we both know the answer to, I can tell you haven't just by looking at you, you have dark circles under your eyes, and you're wearing the same pants, you just changed you're shirt to make it look like you have actually gone to your room"

I look away from her, overwhelmed and disappointed in myself. She slides closer to me and puts her hand on my chin to move my head back up to face her. She says "I know you're worried about Megan but you need to get some sleep, Emily you're distracted and not totally with it"

I try not to make eye contact with her as I mutter "I can't"

"What do you mean? Please just talk to me, Em"

"I can't sleep knowing Megan is out there going through who knows what, hurt a-and scared. She needs me and I needed to protect her and I didn't, I was too focused on being upset with her that I let her wander off alone!"

I put my elbows on my thighs and lean my face into my hands. JJ rubs my shoulder and says "hey, none of this is your fault! Megan wouldn't want you to torture yourself like this, she's strong, we'll find her and she'll be ok"

She tugs at my arm, motioning me to stand up. I stand up and she hugs me, while rubbing my back. She pulls away after a couple of seconds and says "ok we're going to eat and then get to work"

I'm kind of shocked that she was going to stay and not drag me back to my room, I say "JJ you don't have to stay"

"Yes I do, Megan's like family to me, and you're my friend, and you need company"

I smile at her as we both sit down and eat, and then get to work.
