Twelve Challenges

Chapter 7

(AN Sorry again for not posting for a while. College is a really struggle right now. I am once again posting a new section while in a zoom class. This section will show you a little bit of Rowan's family and is a light hearted section)

When I land at my Aunt's house on the outskirts of town I see my three cousins coming out of the house followed by my Aunt, Ash Firewind, and mother. "Ah here he is, I was starting to wonder if ye would show up for lunch," Ash warmly says while wrapping me into a tight hug.

"Yeah, Rowan, we were stuck waiting for you to show up. We are all stick and bones now because of you," Aspen jokes while giving me a brotherly slap on the back. Aspen is older than me by three years and has light brown hair and gold eye color. My other two cousins, Cedar, Age 15, dark green eyes and dark brown hair and Maple, a young girl of 8, with red hair and grey eyes both come up and either pats my back or wraps me in a quick hug. We quickly return to the house and sit down at the table and partake within the noon meal together. After eating and cleaning up we all go out to the small creek behind the house and sit with our feet resting in the water.

"Now, Rowan, we know that there is something going on in the meadow west of the castle. My husband has been called away to help build something. We asked Willow this morning but she said we had to talk to you. Do you know what's going on in the meadow?" Ash said while fiddling with a leaf of her namesake.

"Yeah Rowan do you know?" Cedar question while sending a splash of water magic towards me. I quickly use my magic to send a splash towards Cedar and Aspen too for good measure before answering. "The builders are working on creating a temporary obstacle course for Master Kevan and I to compete on. My father said that Kevan and I are to compete in 12 different challenges and whoever wins the most challenges will get the right to rule the Sud after him."

"I hope you win Rowan, Kevan seems like he would be a meany," Maple said looking seriously like.

"Rowan do you know if the people will get to watch?" Aspen asks while leaning towards me.

"The people are able to. I suggested it to Lord Ravenstar today and he liked the suggestion so tomorrow there should be an announcement in the town square. He thought it would be a great way to show the people who we are and to feel like they are a part of this competition," I explain while sending little balls of water floating in the air for Maple to play with.

"Great, we get to watch you crush Kevan and win the right to rule the Sud," Aspen said while fanning out his wings before laying back against a tree. The rest of the evening passed in this same way. My cousins and I, playing and messing around while enjoying the sunshine and spending time together.
