Tommy’s feet hit the pavement with a quick step, walking to school and enjoying his favorite manga series called “The Dream SMP.” He wasn’t liked too much in the real world, sure he had amazing parents and an amazing dog, but he had no one else to talk to. That’s where The Dream SMP comes in, he could imagine himself as the hero facing the Ender Dragon, a deadly force the main villain used to take down the country of L’Manberg. He was enjoying the lead-up to the fight, two of the weaker heroes were joining in on the fight.

As the book came to a close, Tommy looked up and noticed the crosswalk under his feet. Tommy thought for a moment, “How did I forget to keep walking? I’m the best at multitasking, especially when one of the tasks is walking.” Before he could pick up on walking he heard a loud honk of a horn, his head snapping to see the upcoming car headed his way. Even with time slowed down, he couldn’t move his legs, his whole body screamed to move yet he couldn’t. In a last-ditch effort to save his skin, he threw his arms up wrapping around his head in hopes of living.

He didn’t want to die yet.

When Tommy came to, he was still on the road. He felt a crushing feeling on his chest, causing the most pain. His ears were ringing, a song he couldn’t quite place sounded, along with shouts and sirens. He heard people shouting, the song wasn’t turned off yet he enjoyed it. It was like a welcoming to the other side.

At least, it should have been.

He woke up with a gasp, placing a hand on his quickly beating heart. He shouldn’t be here. A voice shook him from his dazed state, “Prince Tommy, your mother needs you.” Looking towards the door, he saw an enderman, the same one working with the villain in his favorite book. The voice spoke up again, more panicked this time, “O-oh, did I w-wake you up? I’m so so sorry!” Tommy’s eyes widened and he finally found his voice, “N-no! I was waking up already, your good I promise.” The enderman sighed and said, “Well, get dressed and to the main hall. The queen is upset about something.” Tommy nodded, watching as the enderman left, before getting up.

His legs-scratch that-his whole body felt like jello, yet he moved to the closet easily. These weren’t his clothes, or at least most of them weren’t. A few red and white shirts along with blue pants were recognizable and were hanging up next to black dress shirts and pants that weren’t his. So, maybe to look formal for a queen he walked into the bathroom to change.

As he slipped the black dress shirt over his head, his gaze met the mirror. The first thing he noticed was his clothes, the black shirt, and black pants were too dark for his liking. The next thing was his eyes, one his own light blue and another a bright purple. The final thing was the small, black wings with purple accents that almost matched his shirt color, with a long black spiked tail and two black horns on his head. He turned to face the mirror and saw black scaly skin around his purple eye. His first thought was how badass he looked, the next was that he reminded himself of the villain in his story.

Stepping out of the room, he finally took in how different his room looked. It was stone bricks, some cracked and others covered in moss. There were spruce floors and a black banner with a purple dragon on it. He was in the lair of the ender dragon. How could he not recognize the symbol?

On quick feet he rushed to the main room, running a hand through his messy hair. Part of him was glad he read all the stories he did, moving down the hall with ease. Had he missed the book where the literal villain had a child? Or was it kept secret from everyone as a twist? Was he living the book now? His thoughts were interrupted by the queen herself. He mostly black and scaly skin, save for one spot on her left eye, contrasted the deep purple dress she wore. He saw the same wings and tail he had, except larger and more defined with purple. Her horns were purple with small black spots on the end of them and long black hair. He seemed to look somewhat similar to her, or maybe Tommy looked more like his unknown father.

“Ah! Son!” She said with a smile, walking forward and opening her arms for a hug. Tommy moved forward, accepting the hug for reasons he couldn’t quite think of. “Did you have trouble with anything? Are you hungry?” As the two let go of the quick embrace, Tommy made eye contact with the dragon, her right eye purple and her left eye brown, he spoke quickly, “No, I’ll be good!” Tommy laughed nervously, the queen seeming to catch on, and muttered, “Don’t worry, he can’t hurt you and he won’t hurt me.” Tommy was confused for a moment on who this guy was. He had the name on the tip of his tongue, yet he couldn’t place who the guy was, he nodded, and asked, “What did you need from me?” The queen smiled faded slightly as she spoke, “He- wants you to fight the heroes. Tommy, he knows you’ll die but he doesn’t care.”

Tommy took a deep breath, looking his fairytale mother in the eyes and saying, “Then teach me. Teach me how to fight, I promise I’ll be fine then.” Tommy had an advantage, while he didn’t know how the story ended he knew that it would take the group a few weeks to get over. “Are you sure..? It could be dangerous,” The ender dragon’s voice is what made Tommy believe, for a split second, that there was more to her story than he knew. Someone was holding them hostage, but the story said she willingly helped.

Maybe the stories were feeding into the wrong narrative.
