-------------------> WHEN TOM RIDDLE HAD ACCEPTED THE INVITATION extended by his lovely or to stay at her house for the summer instead of returning to the filthy orphanage, he had possessed little idea of what he had agreed to.
For one, he would be under the same roof as the formidable politician, Lord Henry Potter, who would be the perfect person for him to shadow and learn the art of controlling the Wizengamot. Not to mention, he would also be living with Artemis' family members —and Artemis herself— so, Tom had to be cautious not to slip and present an ill view of himself.
Artemis lived in a castle nestled in the woodland. With fountains scattered around the estate, and a trail of pebbles flanked by square hedges of green on either side, Tom had found himself nearly gaping as he viewed the home his or had grown up in.
The castle which had been dubbed 'Potter Manor' was all looming exteriors with tall windows and high ceilings. Yet, there was a warmth to it. A certain charm and brightness that could be tied to the family that resided inside it.
The walls inside had been panelled with wood, but Tom would occasionally spot white, floral embellishments and small, gold impressions of various, mundane objects like wands, plant pots, bonfires, fireworks, books, a large eagle feasting on a lion which was eating a badger, and a rather odd drawing which he was informed was a picture of Fleamont and Charlus burning in the fiery depths of hell while a smiley face in the background was supposed to be Artemis smiling at that sight.
Unlike most parents, Henry and Filomina had encouraged their children to explore their artistic skills and draw on the walls so, unlike parchments which would get lost or damaged, the memories of their childhood will remain. Plus, Filomina in particular adored delving into a detailed elaboration of each, tiny artwork, despite how horrid they looked, much to her children's horror and husband's amusement.
Tom had been given his own room and bathroom in the Potter Manor and joined the family for every meal they ate together in the dining room. He enjoyed each and every moment of it, even if the actual glamour had worn off within a day.
Because, here's the thing: the Potter family was... quirky, to say the least. And despite living with them for a little over two months, Tom still found himself sporadically surprised by the bursts of their eccentric behaviours.
"Good morning, Tom," Filomina greeted him as he entered the parlour upon descending down the spiralling staircases.
"Good morning, Mrs Potter," Tom returned with a smile as he sat down beside her on the sofa. The rays of sunlight streamed in from the tall windows around the room, brightening the atmosphere and his mood.
Tom made his morning cup of tea, adding spices and mint leaves while Filomina made hers with an extra teaspoon of sugar. Then, in a union, took a sip of their drinks, sighing blissfully and enjoying the tranquillity while it lasted.
