Juuzou woke up on a Sunday morning to an empty space next to him, he rolled over into the empty spot to see if it was still warm. It was freezing cold, so he rolled back over into his spot snuggling back into the warmth. His mind started to scold him for being lazy, so he sat up with a sigh and stretched his arms up above his head. He swung his legs over the Edge of the bed and jumped up onto his feet. "Cold, cold, cold!" He whispered yelled, jumping from one foot to the other. He ran to the carpet that was in front of his dresser. He sighed in relief, then took some socks out of the drawer and slid them onto his feet. He walked out of the room, to find Kaneki cooking breakfast in the kitchen. "What're you making ken?" Kaneki turned around, "Morning, I'm just fixing you some miso soup." The corners of Juuzou's lips turned up, thinking of the taste of the soup in his mouth.
A comfortable silence swallowed the room while Kaneki cooked and Juuzou rocked back and forth in his chair. Kaneki, after he finished, set a bowl of the soup in front of his empty chair, then one in front of Juuzou. When Juuzou saw the bowl being set in front of him, he lost his balance in his excitement. Kaneki heard a gasp come from his lover, and by reflex, stuck his hand out and caught the chair. He paused before setting it down and asked, "Are you okay?" Juuzou nodded happily and giggled. Kaneki chuckled under his breath and took his own seat. He quietly watched as Juuzou brought the bowl to his mouth and drunk the delicious liquid. Juuzou sat the bowl back down on the table and looked at Kaneki's untouched bowl. "Are you okay?" He asked looking back up at him. Kaneki snapped back into it. "Oh! Yeah..." He had something on his mind, and it was making him extremely nervous. "Uh- well... Juuzou, maybe we could go on a date later? I found a place." Juuzou perked up at the sudden suggestion. "Yeah!" He agreed without hesitation. "Okay then, we'll go at eight after you get off of work." Juuzou's eyes widened, he'd completely forgotten that he had work. He jumped out of his seat and ran into their room to get ready, leaving Kaneki in a fit of laughter. "Not funny Ken!" He shouted from their room.
Three minutes later Juuzou came into the main room in a hurry and kissed Kaneki goodbye. "Love you Ken!" He called as he swung the door open. "Love you, stay safe!" Kaneki called back, and immediately after, he heard the door slam shut. He gulped, nervous for whatever was going to happen later that night. He decided it wasn't worth fretting over and that he'd just go to the library to look for a good book.
Later that day, Kaneki and Juuzou had both gotten ready to go. They were wearing suits, for reasons that Juuzou couldn't even imagine. He understood though, when they arrived at the place Kaneki said he'd found. It was a two story restaurant, that looked vaguely like a mansion. On the inside of the curved building, there were tables all over, crowded with people. There were waitresses shuffling around to take the orders of the many people there. On either side of the room there were curved staircases leading to a second, more secluded floor. Up on the second floor there were seven different booths, with only five of them filled. There were three families, and one married couple. This second floor only seated people who had paid more for reservations. When they walked in, a woman in uniform immediately came to greet them. "I'll be showing you to your seats gentlemen. Can I get a name?" Kaneki spoke up with his soft voice, "Ken Kaneki." She looked down at the clipboard she was holding and nodded, "Right this way sir!" The two followed her up a marble staircase. Juuzou ran his fingers along the iron railing, the woman sat them at one of the empty booths, and left them to decide what they wanted to order. Kaneki stood up, "Hm?" Juuzou looked up at him confused. "I-I'll be right back." Kaneki laughed nervously, then shuffled off for an unknown reason.
Juuzou waited impatiently for Kaneki to return. He swung his legs under the table and tried to focus on reading the menu, to no avail. He set it down and stood up, looking at the staircase to wait for him to come back. He smiled brightly when he saw the tips of white hair coming from the staircase. He quickly sat himself back down and pulled the menu back up to his face. Kaneki slid himself into the seat across from Juuzou and sighed, trying to calm his nerves. Juuzou peeked over his menu a little concerned, but relaxed when he saw the other male smiling at him. "Have you decided what you want, Juuzou?" He asked. Juuzou put the menu down and nodded eagerly. "Oh? What is it?" Juuzou, not actually having looked at what the menu had to offer, pointed to a random spot. "This!" Kaneki leaned over to look at it. "Hm, good choice." Juuzou glanced at what he'd pointed at. It read 'Yaki-Onigiri Plate', which he supposed wasn't too bad for a random selection. "I'll have the same thing then." Kaneki nodded.
Their conversation flowed from there, everything they said in total agreement. They talked about Juuzou's job, which was now at the TMPD, he was doing well over there, and it was safer than his previous job, which satisfied Kaneki. They'd just finished laughing when a waitress came up to their table. "Are you gentlemen ready to order?" Kaneki looked at Juuzou, who nodded. "Yes ma'am, thank you." She pulled out a notepad from her front pocket. "What can I get you to drink?" Juuzou giggled under his breath. "Two waters please!" He said cheerfully. She nodded and jotted it down on her notepad. She looked up, waiting for them to continue. "And uh-" Kaneki fiddled with his fingers, suddenly feeling a bit shy. Juuzou finished for him, "Two of the Yaki-Onigiri plates!" She wrote it down, "Will that be all?" Kaneki nodded, so she ripped the paper she'd written on out of the notepad and walked away. "Why so shy Ken?" Juuzou asked him. "It's just weird, being around strangers and all..." Juuzou frowned. "It's okay Ken, they can't hurt you." Juuzou reassured. Kaneki smiled at him, he was absolutely positive that Juuzou was the one.
Their Onigiri came shortly after they ordered it, which they thanked their waitress for. Once they saw how big the plates were the realized they should've gotten just one and shared it. They laughed at themselves and continued to talk. Near the end of the meal, it got a little quiet, and Kaneki took this as his chance. He broke into a nervous sweat and forced himself to stand up. Juuzou looked up at him, "What are you doing, Ken?" Kaneki left him without a response and kneeled down on one knee. He reached for something in his back pocket, and held it out towards Juuzou. It was a tiny black box. He snapped it open, and revealed a delicate silver ring with an intricate design carved into it. "Will you marry me, Juuzou Suzuya?" Juuzou began to tear up, and Kaneki felt a pang of despair in his heart, before it was taken away by the other boy shouting "Yes!" There was clapping and happy laughing from the few other people who were there. Kaneki stood up and took the ring out of the box. He took Juuzou's hand in his and slid the ring on. Kaneki gave a light chuckle as he was embraced by Juuzou who was laughing and crying happily. Kaneki was glad that Juuzou had said yes, otherwise he wasn't sure what he would've done.
{And that's how they got engaged! Very fluffy chapter; don't you think?}
