Scrambling across the floor, Sonic scooped up the broken pieces of the detector.
No good. He'd need to take this back to Uncle Chuck's. Or to Tails. Either would do. He supposed Twilight was another option, but he couldn't risk that without blowing his cover. So he had to get the detector out to Canterlot.
But he couldn't leave the Chaos Emerald. He had to get it. He had to.
But without the detector.....
Hastily staggering to his feet, Sonic bolted down the hall, shoving past other kids who yelled at him to watch where he was going. Of course, he ignored them all, stumbling on until he reached a pair of gray double doors. Sonic threw himself at the doors, crashing through them.
A band room, given that he nearly tripped over a trombone case on the way in.
Rolling over onto his knees, Sonic investigated the detector's damage.
Cracked screen, wires loose, antenna split, heavily dented panel......yeah, there was no way this thing would be detecting anything anytime soon.
'Okay, think, Sonic. There has to be something in this building you can use to cart all of these pieces away. Surely nobody will notice if you borrow a backpack or a duffel bag or--'
His eyes widened at the sight of a baby blue and white plaid messenger bag about the size of a lunch box tucked behind a riser. It would do nicely.
He froze at the crackle of an announcement. "Attention! Students intending to use the band room to rehearse for the winter concert report at 2:00 in this order: Bulk Biceps, Flash Sentry, Snips and Snails, the Rainbooms, and Lyra Heartstrings."
A music festival.....
Sonic's eyes landed on a red double-necked guitar resting nearby. Forgetting his mission and shoving the detector bits behind the riser, Sonic approached the guitar, sat down on the riser, and took a few practice strums.
"Heh. Not so different from my triple-neck," he giggled before he took a deep breath and began his song.
In the daylight,
Gonna go fast,
Gotta beat the red light,
Ain't no time lapse.
In the night time,
I'ma keep on
Racing the shooting stars til the dawn.
We can be friends, but I won't team up.
If you wanna come along, then try to keep up.
I'm the fastest, I'm the fastest alive.
Need no practice,
If you insist I'm a liar,
How's about you watch me now?
I'll prove you wrong in a heartbeat.
Never gonna tell you how,
Speed just runs through my bloodstream.
Yeah!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It caught Rainbow Dash off guard at first to hear the sound.
No other guy had that voice. It was enchanting. Mesmerizing. Like water flowing in a crystal stream. It was rich and lively. A beautiful, rich tenor echoing through the halls like a siren call.
The other Rainbooms noticed, as did other students, many of them coming out of the classrooms at the mystery voice. They flocked to the band room, overwhelmed by their curiosity.
Naturally, Rainbow Dash sped to the band room first and pressed her back flat against the doors in a spy maneuver as she nudged the door open with a sneaker.
I can't even explain it,
But I know I'll never stop this feeling.
The speed in my soul,
The speed in my soul.
And I can't even restrain it,
So I'm gonna keep, keep on running.
The speed in my soul,
And nothing's gonna stop me,
I'ma keep on running, oh!
