"Im a failure," Lucifer explained, a distraught expression on his face as he made his way to the bar to pour himself a much needed drink. Maze scoffed behind him, a drink already in hand as she sipped on the golden liquid before setting it down on the bar in front of her.
"You can't be serious. It would have happened eventually," she narrowed her eyes at him before stating, "Go chase the girl. You know what Decker is like. She'll forgive you in no time.""I can't Mazikeen. There's work here at Lux: I need to sort out with the contractors and I need to speak to them about deliveries. Im just so busy I didn't even notice", he sighed, letting the liquid burn down his throat before setting the glass down.
"Lucifer..." Maze sighed, pushing a breath out through her nose before placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I got it here. Go see her and sort it out." The reassuring expression he gave her made his shoulders slump and he took in a deep breath before nodding and grabbing his jacket from the not so far couch.---
"Lucifer, what are you doing here?", Chloe asked, confused by the look on Lucifer face. It was distressed and agitated as if he was trying to speak his mind however his mouth refused to participate. Her eyes roamed the rest of his body, glancing over what used to be a cleaned up suit, now a crumpled jacket, uneven trousers and a pulled-out, clearly un-ironed t-shirt. He scratched his head awkwardly, forcing her attention back up to his face.
"Ulmm. I-", he stumbled and sighed deeply. Damn you words...
"Are you ok?", Chloe asked, her voice less defensive than when she first greeted him. Her eyes softened at the thought of anything gone wrong and she confused herself in overthinking intrusive thoughts.
"I- I'm sorry. I don't deserve the chance to make it up to you. It's like a question I can't give myself the opportunity to answer," his voice cracking in a rhythmic theme to his breathing. Had Chloe done something wrong? Or hadn't?"There's this feeling inside me that I n- need be enough for you and Trixie. However I can't fix this feeling; the constant hole in my chest whenever I'm not around you. The only thing that makes me feel whole again is being here", he paused for a moment as he sucked down a sob and regained his posture.
"I don't know what to do...", his voice grew silent towards towards end of his sentence as emotion ripped through his throat. Chloe let the tears fall before pulling him into a hug, her head stuffled into the base of his chest as he wrapped his arms around the bottom of her back for comfort.
"You don't have to feel like this", she whispered against his crumpled shirt, eyes tightened shut to try and stop the tears from falling even harder than they already were. She felt him shake his head before he grabbed the sides of her shoulders lightly and pulled them away from each other. Her eyes seemed lost at his reaction however his smile seemed to surpress her own stomach tugging at the attempt of feeling empty. Like an unanswered question...
"You wanna stay here tonight? We can watch movie and drink cheap alcohol", her eyes said it all as she affectionately took his hand from his side and pulled him into the threshold of her home.He sighed in relief, breathing in the smell of her honeycomb shampoo and passionfruit body wash. It was bliss. It was like home...
He sat on the couch, watching her leave his side, now closing his eyes as she delicately made her way first to the kitchen, grabbing two spare wine glasses and fancy bottle from the fridge. She gripped the wine glasses in her left hand, balancing the wine in between her chest and small arm before grabbing the bar of milk chocolate she left in the fridge but never had the chance to eat yet.
When she returned back to the living room, his eyes were closed, his head tilted back as he had already shredded his jacket off, now laid on one side of the couch. Setting down the glasses with a clink, his head shot up when she opened the bottle of wine and poured the velvet-like liquid into the glasses. He got comfortable as Chloe handed him the drink, eager to get off of her own feet.
"Thank you darling," he nodded, his British accent rolling off of the tongue. She smiled at him warmly as he returned the gesture, now taking a place on the couch next to him, legs tooked under herself to balance her full wine glass on her knee before taking a small sip. She grabbed the remote, loading onto to disney+ to continue her watch of the new show, Loki.
"What's this?", he asked curiously as the screen loaded into a current episode.
"Its called Loki. Its a new show and I think you might like it", she smiled, watching his eyes relieve their own dull ache from his almost crying state beforehand.Chloe watched as he sighed, placing his head on her lap when the episode began. She sucked in a small breath, feeling it catch in her throat for a moment.
"Is this ok?", Lucifer asked, almost a whisper, as he tilted his head up to meet her gaze. She smiled again, her mouth starting to ache because of it as she nodded and pulled her eyes back to the TV in front of them.
She gained the ability to her fingers, gently stroking them across the side of his jaw line before making her fingertips travel to the back of his head where she played with his long black locks, disleveled from whatever activity that was previous to her presence: before he turn up at her doorstep, a hot, seering mess.
