They stood beside each other a few feet apart near the lake close to their campsite. Light broke through the mountain peaks and subtle morning fog as it shined down softly on his face. He looks back to his life and death companion with a bright smile. It wasn't his usual rat bastard or self-sacrificial type smile. No, it was a smile reserved for only the protagonist to see. A wide grin across his face brimming with emotions that are often left unsaid. A smile for only a specific protagonist this reader would give.

The man wore all black, an unreadable expression placed on his face. He had killed thousands through his regressions, including the man before him, yet scenario after scenario, he stayed and fought by his side. He was his Life and Death companion, Kim Dokja.

He felt his heartbeat and A subtle warmth spread through his entire being. Yoo Jonghyuk felt his body relax as he gazed upon the figure in white. The figure in white gave him a gleaming smile and returned the smile with a fond look.

Kim Dokja stood there as Yoo Jonghyuk walked towards him. Jonghyuk stopped in front of him and spoke.

"Kim Dokja," he spoke in a low tone, yet there was affection in his voice. In Jonghyuk's eyes, Kim Doja saw a flicker of emotion different from his usual stone-cold eyes.

"Yoo Jonghyuk," Kim Dokja replied

"Stop sacrificing yourself." His voice wasn't cold but full of concern and desperation. "I want to see the world after the ___ with you."

Kim Dokja's smile faltered for a bit before saying, "You worry too much Jonghyuk-ah"

Yoo Jonghyuk's brows furrowed, his tone turned cold, "Kim Dokja."

But before Kim Dokja could find another excuse, A blue message pops up in front of them.

Kim Dokja blinked. His eyes widened as he glanced over to look at Yoo Jonghyuk. A gentle breeze swept through his hair as he made eye contact with the other.

Yoo Jonghyuk looked at Kim Dokja with soft eyes, eyebrows furrowing slightly, while his lips formed a firm line. He was disappointed, how this squid had no self-preservation and how he was unable to be an anchor for Kim Dokja.

Kim Dokja was still staring at Yoo Jonghyuk, stunned by his earlier thoughts. Unconsciously he reached out and touched the other's face caressing the scar on his face with his thumb. Jonghyuk's eyes grew at the unexpected action but let it be.

Before Dokja could register what he was doing, his head became flooded with indirect messages. He immediately started to pull his hand back when Yoo Jonghyuk stopped him. He flinched as heat rushed up to his face and ears. He felt himself blushing and his heart starting to race as he stiffened in place. Now only half a foot away from his sunfish protagonist.

He couldn't understand why this sunfish suddenly hugged him or even hugged him at all. Yoo Jonghyuk was the protagonist of Ways of Survival in a ruined world. He was fearless and was never the type to show affection easily. So Why? Why was he being hugged by this sunfish bastard? Why wasn't he being embraced when the sunfish would have usually just chopped off a hand before it even touched him.

Jonghyuk didn't say anything as he just stood there holding Dokja tightly afraid, he might disappear. Kim Dokja knew no self-preservation. He never took care of himself and hurt others with his self-sacrificing tendencies. It was due to that he could never take his eyes off him. He was afraid that Kim Dokja would die but never come back to them. Yet at this moment, he could feel Kim Dokja in his arms, the warmth from his body, and knew he was safe.

Neither of them said anything when Kim Dokja hesitantly returned the embrace nor when Jonghyuk buried his head into Kim Dokja's neck. Not even the KDJC had anything to say about Yoo Jonghyuk randomly hugging Kim Dokja after that. Except for Hansooyung, who teased Kim Dokja, and the kids who glared at Yoo Jonghyuk complaining about him taking Dokja away from them.
