Villain character
1)Betrayal
•have them betray the main character just like they were betrayed in the past. (Ex: They were sold out to the enemy by one of their closest friends)
•The villain feels like the something is going to happen to themselves, and that the main character will betray them so the villain betrays them first.
•The villain feels as though the main character's morals ,or what they are trying to reach, is wrong, so they try to correct it
• Or just have the villain be manipulating the main character all along, then the main character finds out.
2)Angering the main character
•Have the villain kill the main character's best friend, or a close companion.
•The villain makes the journey for the main character extremely difficult, or just mildly inconveniences them.
•Silently stealing their stuff to create distrust within the main character, and their companions.
3)Development
•They were once a close friend of the main character, but something happened (Bribery, betrayal, insanity, doubt, confusion, threatening, etc.) So they left the main character's side,and decided to go against them.
•They have been against the main character from the start and has decided to share their beliefs.
•The villain May start to realize that what they are doing is wrong, so slowly they start to go easier,and less rude, at the main character. Then eventually stopping altogether before asking to join the main character
•The villain has been controlled against their will from the beginning, and has been giving hints to the protagonist until they figure it out and tries to save the villain.
• The main character has actually been in the wrong the whole time,and only figures out when their enemy tells them what they've been doing and why it's wrong.
