I woke up to a pounding in my chest. Frantically I look around not remembering where I am, clutching my chest I take deep breaths and close my eyes. When they open the familiar sight of my bed room appears, my crowded desk, my blue curtains and my posters all around the room hug me in a feeling of safety and familiarity. My clock beside my bed glows red with the numbers reading '3:48 a.m'. With a sigh I rub my eyes removing the comforter off of my body and swinging my legs over the side of my bed. Standing up I slowly make my way to the bathroom trying my best not to make a sound and wake up my roommate. Once in the safety of the bathroom I turn on the water and splash my face, the cold water makes a chill run down my spine. My hand goes to my right trying to find my towel once i grab it I wipe off my face and lock eyes with my reflections. Her turquoise eyes stare at me still in shock from the nightmare they experienced. Her pale skin dotted with freckles is flushed and shivering. I hang up my towel and start to slowly head back to my room. A loud bang stops me dead in my tracks. The bang happens again and again...slowly but in a pattern. I close my eyes take a breath and think. 'It's just Grace...she got thirsty and went to get a drink.' I nod trying my best to convince myself that it was true...The banging stops and I take a sigh of relief. It's short lived when the banging is replaced by glass shattering and a loud bone chilling scream. 'Grace!' My eyes go wide as I sprint down the hall towards her room. Once I get there I grab the handle and jiggle it. It's locked...I hear Grace crying and screaming for help on the other side. I start hitting the door with my shoulder trying to break it down but to no avail...I look around frantically looking for something...anything...My eyes catch sight of a hammer resting on the counter by some picture frames containing pictures of Grace and I. Quickly I pick up the hammer and start hitting the handle as hard as I can. It's snaps off and I'm able to open her door. The door flies open and the hammer slips from my hands and my knees give out and I fall to the floor...Grace lays on her bed room floor her brown eyes staring at the door are lifeless, still looking like she was calling for help, her hand stretched towards the door and her mouth was still open. Her window was shattered and there was no sight of anyone in the room. Once I get the courage to look at somethings there then her face, my stomach curls into a ball. Her stomach was torn open leaving her insides to be spread all over the floor like some kind of sick party decoration. There's blood everywhere...I gag turning away and close my eyes slowly standing up. My legs shake I turn around slowly and make my way back to my room. Once there I lock the bedroom door, I look around and grab my phone dialing 9-1-1.
'We're Sorry All Lines are Busy, please stay on the line and we'll get to you as soon as we can.'
My blood runs cold...I hang up drop my phone on my bed and run my hands through my dark auburn hair. I pick up my tv remote and turn on the news...little did I know that the whole world had gone to shit.
