"Whose idea was this again?" Hanna asked, as she used her hands to protect her body from the tree branches that were pointing at her.
Kyla was behind the group, huffing in annoyance as flies flew in front of her face and buzzed in front of her ears. The whole '-A' debacle made it almost impossible for the tall brunette.
"Emily's mom." Spencer replied.
Emily shook her head, "The shed was me. My mom just said we should do something for us.
"Well, couldn't we do something without mosquitoes?" Hanna complained, as she spelched through the muddy forest, beside Kyla.
"They're not mosquitoes, they're gnats." Aria corrected.
"Whatever! They're small and annoying and they're flying up my nose."
"Well, they're attracted to our perfume and your hair product." Spencer commented, "and Kyla's lipgloss."
"Thanks, it's strawberry-flavoured." Kyla sarcastically said to the fellow brunette.
"So, what are you saying? That we attract flies?" Hanna teased.
"Gnats."
"Okay, you need to quit correcting us. They're both small, annoying things that fly everywhere so who cares?" Kyla exclaimed, glaring at Aria.
"Why do I feel like this is the wrong way?" Emily asked, nervously, as she halted in the middle of the forest.
"No, this is it. I remember that tree." Spencer informed the group, pointing up to the large tree, "It's the halfway point. There's 135 steps left to the shed."
"Have you been out here since. . . Alison?" Emily furrowed her eyebrows as she turned to Spencer for an answer.
"Me? No. No way." Spencer denied.
"But, you remember that tree." Aria frowned at the field hockey player.
"You guys, it's not that weird," Kyla defended her, "I mean we came out here in eighth grade, like everyday---even after."
"I think this is totally the wrong place to do this, whatever you call it--- shrine." admitted Spencer.
Kyla nodded in agreement, as she stood behind the girl, "I agree, who wants to remember someone in the place they potentially died?"
"We don't know that," Emily snapped at Kyla before turning to Spencer, "And it's not a shrine. It's just a place to remember Alison. What's wrong with that?"
"What's wrong is that we could be standing in the exact spot Alison's killer stood in that night!" Kyla pointed out.
"Besides, doing it way out here makes it look like we have something to hide."
"You're worried about what other people think?" Gasped the swimmer.
"Well aren't you? Do you really want to give that creepy detective more reasons to question us?" Spencer asked Emily.
