The Delay

Ding. I rolled over in my bed and saw a couple stars and a dark sky through the window. The ding noise came from downstairs and it sounded like a microwave or maybe the television.  I yawned and sat up slowly. I looked around the room and saw my suitcase was still in the same spot. Huh? What happened? Am I ib California. I felt a bump on the back of my head. Ouch! Confused, I got out of bed and started downstairs. Step by step I walked slowly. I walked through the front room and saw Dad sitting on the couch. He had a cup of coffee that he sipped continuously while watching the news. He was watching ten o'clock news and I instantly knew it was eleven because right then the lady on the news said, "This is ten o'clock news at night and we'll get back to you tommorow morning."

"Dad, where is mom? I need to talk to her," I said in almost a whisper.

"She's in her room watching TV. She was so worried about your fall earlier. She was gonna take you to the hospital, but I told her this was a minor issue," he said to me in the same whisper tone I did. Now the thoughts osteakalling came back. I hit my head against the tile, Hard. I remember my dad carrying me to the room. He laid me down softly on the pillow and both gave me a kiss on the forehead. I nodded to him and started walking upstairs to talk to mom. Once I reached her door I could hear a rerun of America's Next Top Model playing. I knocked softly and I heard footsteps walking towards the door. The door opened revealing a tired mom. Once she saw me her face lit up as bright as a thousand shining stars on a dark night.

"Honey you're okay! Wait a minute... Are you okay?" she asked going from relieved to worried.

"Yes mom, I am perfectly fine," I said annoyed by her. Why wouldn't I be fine? I was just crabby because I was hungry probably.

Mom must of read my mind because she said, "Honey, go lay in bed and I'll bring you a piece of steak."

"Okay," I said still tired, "one question? When am I leaving to California?"

"Tommorow, no delays," she said coldly. I nodded and sulked back to my room. Tired, I laid in my bed lolligagging and singing until my mom came up with a piece of steak and a glass of lemonade.

"Thank you!" I said sitting up ready to eat. She grabbed my bed side table and dragged it next to my bed. There she laid a plate with a piece of perfectly cooked steak, a clean glass full with ice cold lemonade, one form, and one sharp knife.

"Welcome, after you finish eating I want you to get done rest," she said like I haven't rested enough. She walked out the room and left the door wide open. I ate the steak solely savoring the flavor and sipped down the lemonade. Not bothering to brush my teeth I pulled the covers over myself. Slowly I drifed off into a sleep. Comfortableness washed over me as I grasped my stuffed teddy bear and hugged her tight. Goodnight world!
