Lawn Mitzvah
He was a grower and a shower
For his house, a new bestowerHe worked hard to have and keep his yard
Fed well his dogs to keep his guardGardened crop, swept, and mopped
no matter upped they neighbore or toppeddealt single scale with open palm
worked all night, rose at dawn
but was just a pawn of another lawn
forlorn manhood, dreams are gonea mourning of his mower broke
collectors say pay once awoke
his college voice is just a croak
never had a chance to spokeHe finds that all the pain he's groaned
was for a life glimpsed and barely owned
was all so saved and uselessly spent
turns out it was just for rent
