Chapter 13

A draft of cold air on her face and she woke up suddenly, holding her head. As she breathed heavily, her heart racing at a high speed, she felt the tap on her shoulder.

"Amy! Come on. We -"

"Yeah yeah we must go. I'll issue my books," Amy cut short Lia and walked to the line.

Hobi stood with his bag, snap back, his comfy clothing and books, oblivious to what he had been through in front of her eyes.

"I'm sorry Hobi…" she mumbled to the back of his head bobbing to some music.

But when she heard Lia's heels approaching her, she took a deep breath and started coughing.

"You want to go on that?"

Amy looked up. Over her head was a huge construction of a metal track. The wind gushed against their hair as the car went by with full speed.

It was a week later and Hobi stood with Amy staring at the roller coaster.

"No," Amy said and shook her head. "Not tonight. Maybe some other time," she said with a smile.

"Okay," he said.

She pulled his hand enclosing hers and said, "Now let's go have dinner somewhere. I'm starving!"

"Do you want to eat here at the carnival?" asked Hobi with a pout, feeling lazy to travel.

"NO!" Amy nearly screamed.

When Hobi's eyes went wide in surprise, she added, "I know a good place. Come on, it'll be my treat!"

"I'm so full!" Hobi said, throwing his used tissue onto the empty plate in front of him. The diner was nearly empty but their stomachs full. Amy watched him with a satisfied smile. She said, "Don't you think you took, it being my treat, a bit too seriously? You practically ordered everything on the menu!"

"I did not! I still have space in my tummy," Hobi replied, pouting and patting his stomach. Amy watched him quietly with a smile. Hobi placed both his elbows on the table, and rested his head on his hands.

"What?" He asked. She shook her head and said, "Nothing."

"I like this place," he said, "It's not crowded, the food is great and it's very affordable!"

"I know," Amy replied as she nodded.

Hobi didn't know, but this diner was going to be a major spot for their story in the future. Originally, she was the one who had brought him there. Hence, she wanted to make sure that this time as well, she'd be the one who brought him there.

"What's that?" Hobi asked, pointing at the television on the wall behind Amy, as he sipped on his coke. Amy turned around to see the screen.

It was a local news channel.

"This event was unprecedented. The ride that rode well for the past few months had suddenly collapsed due to a fault in the track. Three civilians have been taken to the hospital while the rest have been reported dead. The police-"

"Oh my god!" Hobi coughed, "We had almost rode that roller coaster tonight! Shit!" Mouth agape, he went onto listening further.

Though Amy's heart raced in her chest, she wasn't surprised. She knew this was going to happen. Or, she believed it might probably happen. Had she wanted to see if that possibility would actually be true? Maybe, maybe not. She didn't know.
