Olivia blinked in confusion as she stepped onto platform nine and three-quarters. It had taken her about ten minutes to discover the hidden entrance, and she had just barely recovered from walking through a wall.
Children were milling about, excited to go to Hogwarts. Olivia, on the other hand, was barely conscious. Ever since she had woken up, she'd had frequent headaches and was constantly distracted. It felt as if she were in a dream. Steam floated through the air and the distinct scent of wet cement reached her nose. Centering herself, Olivia rolled her shoulders back and stepped onto the train.
To her surprise, many compartments were already full. She didn't exactly feel like being around people, so she kept walking until she found what she was looking for. A nearly empty compartment. There was only one person sitting inside. The word outcast floated into her mind without her permission.
"Hey there, is it alright if I sit here?" Olivia asked.
The pale-haired girl turned toward her and answered, "Of course, why wouldn't it be?"
Olivia had no response to that, so she slung her bag next to her and sat down across from the odd girl.
Seeming to remember something, the girl added, "I'm Luna by the way. Luna Lovegood. And who might you be?"
"I'm Olivia Sparks," said Olivia, holding her hand out.
Luna ignored it and cocked her head to the side. "I haven't seen you before. Are you new?"
Olivia pulled her hand back awkwardly and ran it through her short curls. "Ugh, sort of. I was supposed to go to Hogwarts but was in an accident and went into a coma. I only woke up about a month ago and I lost all my memories from before, so I'm a bit new to the magical world."
Luna gave her a dazed smile. "Ah, well. That explains it." She then pulled out a copy of The Quibbler and proceeded to ignore Olivia. Olivia blinked, utterly confused that the girl had already accepted the information when she had barely begun to accept it herself. What an odd one she was, this Luna.
Olivia shrugged to herself and looked out the window, pulling her knees to her chest. Again thoughts of uncertainty swirled through her mind. She felt odd. It was as if she had been on the Hogwarts Express before; as if she had already known Luna. Though the girl clearly didn't speak to people often, Olivia felt a one-sided sense of friendship with her. It was deja vu everywhere she went, but for the life of her, she couldn't quite seem to figure out why.
Lost in her thoughts, Olivia suddenly had an odd vision. It crept in on her, pulling her into a dark corner of her mind, vision going black as if she'd stood up too quickly. Images of dark creatures swirled beneath her eyelids. She saw them closing in on a boy with a lightning scar. Then, a flash of blue light exploded in her vision and suddenly, she was back in the cabin.
The girl across from her was staring. Cocking her head and squinting her eyes slightly, Luna said, "You look like you've seen a ghost."
Olivia was too disoriented to respond. She needed air. Hastily, she excused herself and stumbled out into the hallway. Laughter echoed, but to Olivia, it sounded far away. Her headache had worsened and she felt heavy as she leaned against the wall. She'd hoped to have an easy first day, but it was turning out to be a greater disaster than she could have imagined.
Hearing footsteps, Olivia straightened. A pale, red-haired prefect with a sour expression was patrolling. He looked at her.
"You alright?"
Olivia gave her best smile and nodded sweetly, "Of course."
The boy stared at her for a moment, trying to decide whether or not she was up to something. It looked as if he was used to people playing tricks on him. Deciding she wasn't worth the effort, he moved on. A part of Olivia's mind caught on him. Familiar yet again. And his features, too. The red hair, that jawline, she'd seen it a thousand times before. But where?
