She had a table over her lap, writing on a piece of paper with care.
"What are you doing y/n?" I ask settling a burger on the table.
"I'm just filling out my will and stuff. All boring things." I pull out the food and take a bite in front of her, then offering a bite. "No thank you I just ate. Do you have fries though?" I nod and take out the carton of fries. She finishes the last paper and sets them all aside. "Do you want to go on a walk?" She asks before taking a small fry and swallowing it with much effort.
"Are you allowed?"
"No, but you can wheel me around right?" I nod and carry her onto a wheel chair. "Let's go to the indoor garden." She starts pointing the way there, waving hello to everyone on our way there. Her hair was thinning and could fall at the slightest tug. Even now, she was tethered to a machine the entire time. I sat myself on the bench, locking her wheelchair in place. The garden was empty, hearing the echoes of the waterfall vividly. "Do you believe in soulmates, Tooru?"
"I guess so but I never really found someone like that in my entire existence so I've lost hope along the way. Maybe it's a friend like Iwa-chan because I don't necessarily think it's supposed to be only romantic. It can be platonic or just family. Do you, y/n?"
"Yea, I've always had. I dreamed of meeting my soulmate many times and falling in love at first sight. Of course now, that just seems like fantasy. Every thought of the future that I have is plain fantasy."
"Is it..." I sigh deeply. "Terrifying? Knowing that you haven't done much and you're about to go?"
"I'm not sure how to answer that. I guess yes but I've done enough that I wouldn't die with regret. It is sad that I never found true love from someone else because for as long as I've remember, it's all pity love or love under a facade because they don't know the real me like you do but..." She tugs at her hair ever so lightly, pulling off strands. "if I'm being truthful, being with you is the closest I've ever been to experiencing the joys that type of love." She smiles at me and wipes the hair off her hands. "I'm tired. Let's go back." I nod and unlock her wheels, taking her to her ward. I delicately placed her on her bed and threw away the unnecessary garbage cluttering the space. "Do you want to watch The Fault In Our Stars?" She was very drowsy and was on the verge of fatigue. Maybe this movie will lull her to sleep. I nod and take her laptop, putting on the cancer-kids-falling-in-love movie. I held her hand, caressing the bones sticking through her skin. It looked painful and it must be painful.
Halfway through the film, her breathing was calmed and slow along with the reassuring sounds of the heart beat monitor. I placed my head under her arm, continuing to caress her skin against the pad of my thumb. I let sleep take over me as the movie started to finish. "I hope you're having sweet dreams, y/n" Kissing her knuckles before drifting into a dreamless slumber.
"Sir?" Someone was attempting to wake me up. I open my eyes to be greeted with a bright light.
"I know, I'm going Miss." She nods and I give y/n a final kiss on her temple. "Sleep well y/n." I sling my bag over my shoulder, heading out into the cold, stinging the exposed skin.
