My name is Tycho Mayne. I'm 17 years old and I'm in 11th grade. I was accepted into Shyka Academy through a lottery they hold every 5 years, this is the second year they've held it. This academy has a long history of turning out some of the best people in our history. Today is my first day at this rich academy, so I'm quite anxious.

It seems I got the address right, because this definitely looks like an academy. A prestigious one as well. There were cliques of students in circles all around, and students roaming around with stacks of thick textbooks in their arms filled with the contents of many various subjects.

I took a deep breath and headed towards the entrance, nervous of what this new beginning had in store for me. But as soon as I stepped inside, an overwhelming flock of squealing female students ran over me.

"Ow! What the hell...?"

I slowly turned my head up to see that they weren't just being rude. They were running towards a man. He wasn't in the uniform the school had given us, so I wasn't sure what role he had here. The girls crowded around him, they were so close to him that I started to feel bad for the guy. I managed to get back on my feet and go towards the crowd.

"I leave my dorm for one second and this is what happens? Leave me alone..." the strange man in black said to the women.

They all squealed with excitement, praising him for how cool he was acting. I didn't understand the situation at all, but soon enough I was being dragged into the packed crowd of girls admiring this absolute stranger to me. My eardrums were about to explode from how high their voices were going. I was getting moved to the front of the crowd by all of the excited shuffling. Before I knew it, I got swung into the man they admired so much and bumped right into his chest.

"Ouch! Oh, I am so sorry! I was just..."

I looked up at him and was met with a terrifying glare. I felt like I was about to be put in his Death Note. Though my attention was stolen by his arm, which seemed too large to be a human hand and was a deep black up until a little above his elbow.

"...It's fine. Are you new here?" he said to me, taking back my attention from his arm.
"Oh, yeah, that's right. I'm Tycho Mayne, it's a pleasure to meet you! I-I hope we can get along!"

"I'm King Marshall. I'm in 12th grade, hope you survive here."

"Wait, you're a king?!"

"Do I look like one to you, miss?"

Now that I think about it, he doesn't look like he'd be any sort of royalty in the slightest. He had a black and red jersey, black curly hair, and piercings on his face. Everywhere I looked, his whole outfit was black.

'So...your name is King, but you're not actually a king, right?"

"Yeah, dumbass."

As he walked away with his hands in his pockets, I thought about something he said to me. "Hope you survive here"? What kind of welcome is that? My bubble of thought was quickly burst, as I was now surrounded by King's group of fangirls who were all enviously glaring at me. I didn't want to get in a fight on my first day at such a highly respected academy, so I slowly backed away and made my way to the principal's office.

When I entered, the first I saw was their welcoming smile. I was given a schedule, textbooks, and I was led to my dorm where I'd be staying for the rest of the year. While we walked up the stairs, I was looking over my schedule. The only subject that I'll struggle with will most likely be science, there's a high chance I'll probably set the whole classroom on fire the moment I step in it.

The principal specifically picked this dorm because they thought I'd be a great pair with this upperclassman. I was a bit nervous though, I have always been an easy target for bullies and have been picked on in the past for any reason you could think of. The best outcome would be that me and my roommate get along and become good friends.

When we arrived at the dorm, the principal walked off with a smile and went to their office. I took a deep breath and opened the door to my dorm, and what I was met with was...

"Oh, it's you again. Aren't you that new girl that bumped into me earlier like a klutz?"

Are you serious?! It's King from earlier! Why did I get put in a dorm with an upperclassman who could kill me with his deadly glare?! Maybe getting accepted into such an amazing academy like this completely by chance wasn't so lucky...

"I'm very sorry about earlier, they were pushing me around so much that--"

"Look, it's fine."

King cut me off suddenly and looked completely different from the intimidating aura he always seems to have.

"Those girls are all a bunch of weird stalkers. I know you didn't mean to bump into me, it was their fault and I'm not stupid enough to think you did that on purpose. Now stop being so apologetic, alright? It's an annoying trait to have."

He looked away from me, purposefully trying to avoid eye contact.

"...Thank you for understanding, King. I hope we can get along."

I quickly passed him and went into my room. I didn't have any belongings that were worth bringing along, so all of my things are at home. My parents went away for a trip, so it's best that I stay here at the academy so I don't risk being a target for anybody who's looking to cause trouble since I'd be all alone. I set my books on the wooden desk across from my bed, hung the straps of my backpack on the chair, and flopped onto my bed. It was very comfortable and much better than the torn up mattress I had at home. I lay in my bed for a moment and feel my eyes closing and my consciousness drifting away. I imagined myself in a cloud high above the sky, looking down at the city. I could see the top of buildings I couldn't even look up at without getting a beam of sunlight directly in my eyes. Then, my cloud began to float higher and higher, and soon I was in space. But shortly, it happened, my head was struck with pain and I saw a figure.

I woke up to being shaken awake by King and the sound of a bell. It was 7:30, I needed to get to class!

"Hey, you'll get a bad reputation if you're late to your first class."

"Oh no, I don't even have a clue where my class is! Ow, my head hurts so badly..."

"You can go to the nurse once your class starts, just go."

He grabbed me tightly by the arm and ran out of our dorm. Is getting to my class on time this important? Why does he care so much about me on my first day?

"Your first class is history, right?"

"Wait, yeah...how did you--"

"Get in."

Before I could ask, I was thrown into the classroom and the door shut behind me. Not even a second later, the bell rang once again, signaling that classes were beginning. I awkwardly sat in the seat I was assigned as I was being looked at from all angles by my classmates. Embarrassed, I opened my textbook to 612.
