Dawn's funeral was one day away and the flight plans for her and Alex had been set straight after the funeral. So this was the only chance she would get to tell Jason and say her last goodbye before her flying to her new home.
Alex had helped Ruby pack up the things she wanted to take to Ireland. Alex had a little cottage for Ruby to move into, it was like a sleep out of her own, her own space. The things they had packed up were shipped over and would be in Ruby's cottage when she was to arrive in Ireland.
The only link that Ruby would have, would be the house and furniture. She was going to leave the house with the furniture in drop cloths closed up until she could find a buyer and sell the house. Alex wanted and suggested that she leave the house for her to stay in as a hoilday home. He told her that she had the option of renting the house out and how they could sign up with a real estate agency that would take care of maintainance and formalities with finances. Ruby was still indecisive about what was the best to do with the house.
Ruby's nerves started getting the better of her as she checked her watch Jase was coming over at 9pm when he got off work. Jase worked at the local pizzaria and now her heart started racing as it was a couple of minutes to 9. They lived reasonably close to the central business district so it would only take Jase about 5 minutes at the most to get there.
Ruby looked out her bedroom window after pacing up and down with nerves she heard Jason's car pull in her drive, catching Jason's car lights switching off and she heard the engine to the car go silent. "Well here we go!" she thought as she rushed to the front door to greet him.
Jason was walking up the last step to the front porch when Ruby opened the door.
"Hi babe, I'm so glad to see you" Ruby said genuinely with a smile across her face. She pulled him in for a hug and she could smell the faint aroma of cooked pizza all over him.
At that moment she just wanted time to freeze so that this hug would last forever. It was the only piece of happiness she had right now.
The warmth of Jason's arms, it made her forget she had lost her mother in a freak plane accident three days ago, having to forge a relationship with her father whom since she was 3 only saw her twice a year, he made her forget that she was moving half way across the world to a place she use to dream about since as far back into her childhood as she could remember. The warmth, love and affection from Jason right now was all she wanted to think about, not the tragic life she had at present gieving over her mum, and saying goodbye to the life she was so comfortable living only to start making adult decisions and move on to a new life in Ireland.
After the tradegy of her mum, saying goodbye to Jase was the latest dispointing decision to add to the long list of heartbreak.
Tears started to well up in Ruby's eyes as she wiped them away before letting Jase out of her embrace. Jason caught her wiping her tears. "Oh my darling what's wrong?" Jason sighed. "I'm just so overwhelmed with all that has happened, losing mum, having Alex here I still have mum's funeral tomorrow. I'm a ball of nerves Jase and I'm so glad your here right now!" Ruby blurted out trying to stop the warm tears streaming down her face. "Oh honey, I'll be by your side, we'll get through this together, you know you can trust me.
I .... I... I love you Rubbs" he stuttered and embraced Ruby in a hug.
As they embraced once more, Ruby knew she had to tell Jase she was leaving otherwise she wouldn't be able to tell him at all. She pulled away from him "Can we please sit down Jase? There's something I need to say to you and if I don't tell you now I don't think I will ever have the courage to say it." she whispered softly in his ear.
Jase looked overwhelmed and sat down on the step of the porch next to Ruby awaiting her words in anticipation.
"I love you too Jase." Ruby wimpered. "Oh god give me some strengh" she thought as she tried to think of the right words to say what she needed to say.
"Just tell me what's on your mind please I can't stand this, the suspence is killing me." Jase muttered as he started to think the worst, staring into the cold darkness of the night.
"Jase I'm leaving with Alex, were going to Ireland after mum's funeral tomorrow. I need to do this because Alex is the only family I have left, and I owe it to myself to get to know his family too, now that mum is gone."
