- Ishimaru's P.O.V. -
I see a boy running up to me, waving his hands, right before the start of class.
- Good morning, Kyotaka!
The boy is Chihiro Fujisaki, ultimate programmer. He's a nice dude, I can envy his strength at times. Either way, Chihiro is not just some random guy from my class, in fact, he's my best friend, my only friend.
- The finest, Fujisaki. Great morning!
I reply, being almost cut off by the bell, indicating the first class will start soon. But not to my surprise, the bell is not the only loud noise that can be heard. Some kind of fight was happening, and I bet I knew exactly who was the one causing this commotion.
- Damn it, asshole! You screwed up with the wrong guy!
- I am so very sorry!! I-It was not my intention to!! I scratched your bike by accident, please forgive me!!
I rapidly come to the direction of the one's screaming, interfering them, and preventing any bad stuff to happen. As soon as I arrive at the place, I see some people around in a circle, observing the small fight. The one showing anger is Mondo Owada, ultimate bike gang leader. It was understandable to why he was so angry about his bike being scratched, he loves that thing more then his own life.
- Mr. Owada, I will need to ask you to put down the student, and head to class this instant, you are disturbing the started classes. - I interfere.
- Oh, look who decided to show up. Little nerdy brat, you can't tell me what to do. - he responds.
- Language, Owada!
We were fighting verbally for a few minutes. Then I begin to notice. Everyone had already gone away, including the kid who was being persuaded. The only one who was standing there apart from both of us was the teacher, holding two small pieces of paper.
- Mr. Ishimaru, and mr. Owada, I will expect both of you in detention after classes, for skipping, and for disturbing the class.
She says, handing us each one of the small papers, containing the extra time we would stay in the school and our names. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I stared at the paper, not knowing how to feel. I just put it on my pockets and apologized to the teacher.
- I am so very sorry, mrs. This will not be repeating itself.
- It's alright, Ishimaru, thank you for your apology. Now, both of you go to class. See you in detention. - the teacher responded quickly.
I had not given a single look to Owada. Instead, I just went straight to class, not wanting to be a minute more late. I did observe that Mondo had not followed my actions, and kept outside, I assume he would be skipping class, something he did quite often.- . time skip . -
It was the end of the first period of classes, now being a small break. I saw everyone getting out of the class, only I staying inside, doing some extra work. It was my casual action. I do this everyday, so much that the teacher would leave the classroom so that I could do my work in silence.
- Hey, Taka!
I jumped a little, being taken out of my thoughts. Looking up to see who was the one calling my name I observe as Chihiro stared at me.
- Oh, hello, Fujisaki. You scared me! - I laugh a little. - What is it, do you need my assistance on anything?
- That's not it, Taka. Also, I-I'm so very sorry if i scared you! - I observe him sit by my side. - I just wanted to chat, after all, you came in like 20 minutes late for class today, and some screaming could be heard from outside the class... did something happen? - he asks, in a somewhat worried tone.
- I thank you for your worries, but nothing happen, apart from the fact I got detention... - I say, still very disappointed in myself for it.
- D-detention?? You?? - he asks, surprised.
- Yeah... I had a small fight with Owada.
- Oh... well... - Chihiro was interrupted by the sound of the bell, meaning second period of classes would start. - Ah, already...? Well, see ya tomorrow, Taka!
- Bye, Fujisaki!
I put back my material in my backpack, taking out the ones we would use now in mathematics class, keep sitting, waiting for the teacher and the other students to arrive. Which didn't took too long. And, for my surprise, Mondo showed up for this class, after missing the entire first period. Not only he did actually show up, but he had sit on the first row, by my side. Usually he'd just sit far behind, together with the other trouble maker students he was friends with, such as Leon Kuwata, ultimate baseball player.- . time skip . -
As far as Mondo was sitting on the front row, and somewhat trying to pay attention, I could see he was having a hard time. It's understandable, math can be hard for some people.
- Hey, Owada, would you like my help? - I whisper, trying not to be loud.
- Huh? What. - he stared at me as if I had just said something absurd. - I do not need your help, shit-head.
- I apologize for the inconvenience, then. - I say, in a disappointed tone.
I stare back at him, not a single smile on my face, the way he said it kinda hurts. And I think he could see that. He was not the only one, I looked at the side and could see Fujisaki with a worried smile, I smiled back, in a sincere way, proving him that I was alright.
Even thought I acted as if I was not hurt, I was a little. I'm just tired of seeing Owada act that way, act that way around me. I try so hard to make him be better, he just doesn't help it.
Lost in my thoughts, I hadn't realized the class had finished, being just "woken up" from my world as Mondo waved his hand in front of my face.
- Heyyy, nerdy shit, ya' there?
- Oh, yes. Yes I am, I'm sorry for zoning out. - I respond, more coldly then as usual.
- Damn... y'see... geez... I can't believe i'm actually saying this shit, but here comes nothing. I might need ya help in math, happy now? - he says, on a nervous tone.
A smile makes it's way on my face, as I look at how Mondo nervously tries to ask for help, it can be hard for him.
- Alright, Owada! Then let's do it like this, i'll help you everyday after classes, where would you like to meet? - I say, not even hiding my excitement.
- Everyday? Ugh... can't believe i'm agreeing into this... we can ride on my bike to my place, it's easier that way.
I got so excited I didn't even heard the motorbike part, i'm very afraid of high speeds, and such vehicle just gives me extra fear.
- See ya in detention after lunch period, looser.
He gives me a genuine smile, and leaves the class. I can see as he bro-hugs Leon, which kinda makes my big smile fade a little without I noticing.
- Geez, can't believe you're actually gonna take lessons with the nerd.
I hear Kuwata's voice talking to Owada from outside the class, but my thoughts are interrupted by an excited lady's voice.
- Hello, Ishimaru! Care if I sit down? - I look to the side as I see Junko talking to me.
Junko Enoshima, the queen of high school, some may know her as a nice girl, cheerleader team captain, ultimate fashionista. But the real ones know... she's a little bitch. Always with her two other blind by her beauty best friends, Celestia Ludenberg and Sayaka Maizono.
- Oh, no worries, of course you can. Any specific reason to... - she doesn't sit down, in fact, she just bends over to my table and whispers, cutting my words.
- I just saw you and Owada talking... the look you gave him... I know exactly what that look mean. You're in love, aren't you?
- W-what...? - I could not respond any other thing, i was shocked.
- Now... let's get to business, my homework, done. Or i'll tell the entire school about your little secret...
She did not gave me the chance to say anything, she just stood up, giving me a cold smile, that gave me shivers. How did she even knew that... She could not just do something like that, she can't just take me out of the closet that way. I decided to take on my pride and stand up for myself for once.
- Well then, Enoshima, this is not a deal. Do your worst. I'm not bending on your throne anymore. I am not in any way going to agree to this mess.
- Wrong choice, faggot. - she responded, coldly.
I see her get out of the classroom, laughing, as her friends who were waiting at the door waved at her. Before the three of them leave, Sayaka would have this really sad smile on her face, she knew that what she was helping on was wrong, and maybe she would even feel sorry, but she could not let down Junko. Cause if she did so, she know her life would be a living hell.
I held back the tears, trying to be strong, remembering my dear friend Chihiro's words of encouragement he had gave me the night my mother died. Those words had kept me strong on the worst times, so I repeated them to myself out loud, but in a low tone.
- Kiyotaka, I know this feels like the end of the world right now. But I promise you, you're strong enough to go thought it. This loss you now carry is responsible for you to grow stronger, your mom would be proud, Ishimaru, she'd be so proud of you. You're brave and amazing enough to make it. So, please make it through. Don't let this pain get you behind.
I held tight onto my wrist while shaking and crying a little, saying those words as a small reminder not to blame myself, and to stop harming, cause i'm strong enough. I'm strong enough for her. I'm strong enough for him.
I had just finished having my small breakdown, whipping my tears, when I looked up the door. I see mondo, standing there, giving me a sad, worried kind of face, but tried to smile through it. I wonder how much he had just heard.
- Owada...? - I speak, weakly.
- Detention, remember? Let's go, Taka.
For the first time he had called me by my name, in nickname form, but my name, he hadn't called me nerdy, or asshole, or anything like that. Just my name. I wonder if it's pity. Anyhow, I then follow him to detention room.
