Chapter 2: Training

Rollan was the last one awake in Greenhaven apart from Olvan, who fell asleep and was dreaming of coffee.

When he came to the cafeteria, Rollan noticed that Conor was cooking instead of the cook.

"Good morning, Rollan! Just in time! Right here I have a pancake ready for you! Well, almost." Called Conor. He flipped the pancake, but then, he actually made the pan twist a bit so that it hit Rollan on his face.

Rollan screamed and ran in circles. "Help!" He shrieked.

Meilin came and took the pancake off his face. "Did your tutors teach you that?" She teased.

"No, I learned that all by myself."

"Well, sorry to say, Mr. I-learn-without-my-tutors, but that is not a very nice talent."

Suddenly, they heard a bump-bump-bumpety-bump on the stairs. Olvan.

"Well, young Greencloaks, time for training, once you're done with breakfast and I get some nice coffee."

Later, they went training at a huge maze of bushes.

"You will be in pairs, and use your spirit animals to find your way out of the maze. Rollan, you may not use Essix because I know you will most likely ask her to fly up and you will see the way through her eyes." At this, Rollan turned pink and mumbled something about "not cheating."

"The first pair to find the way through the maze will get to not have to train for 3 days." Finished Olvan.

The pairs were Meilin and Rollan (Reilin) and Conor and Abeke (Coneke).

Inside the maze, Conor and Abeke seemed to be winning. Rollan could hear them through one of the walls at one point.

"Scent out the way, Uraza!"

"You lead us out, Briggan!"

Meilin seemed to be asking Jhi to pretend it was the Bamboo Maze, from Zhong.

"Jhi, all you have to do is pretend that the leaves are bamboo! Yeah, like that! Okay, um, Rollan, do you think we're lost?"

Rollan shook his head. "I think we're hungry."

"True!" Cried Meilin. "On a full stomach, we can think better."

                                              ...

In the end, it was Conor and Abeke who won. What had happened was that Rollan had tripped, fallen on Briggan who had been on the same path, and Briggan thought Rollan was attacking him, and jumped on Rollan, when Conor and Abeke made it to the finish.

"I know what will cheer you up!" Said Abeke."Wait here."
