Chapter 2

*Thomas's POV*

The vent pushed open again and Aris popped out. This scared the others and I started to go down to get in with Aris. "Did you get it?" He asked me. 

"Yeah, let's go." I replied. 

"Maybe you guys are right, but I've got to find out for sure." I looked at the group standing in front of me. "I'll be back as soon as I can." 

Aris and I made our way through the vents and back to that door. We quickly climbed out and I used the keycard I snatched to open the door. It quickly opened and we walked in. We saw a bunch of was looked like tubes all around us and we kept walking. 

All around us were bodies connected to tubes and hanging up on a bar. We continued to look around and the door started to open behind us. The two of us quickly hid and Janson came walking in. 

"Good evening Dr Paige." He spoke and I quickly realized who he was talking too. 

"Change of plans Janson. We need to speed up the tests." 

"Everything you're doing is working."

"I want the rest sedated and ready by tomorrow morning."

"Ava, we're doing everything as quickly as we can. We still have test to run."

"Then do it faster. I need everything secure and to make sure these kids are safe." She said softly. "Have you found the Right Arm yet?"

"Not yet, but we have people searching everyday." Jason replied to her. "Last we saw was as far as the mountains."

"Find them! They cannot have these kids. I cannot lose anymore," and with that the chat was cut off and Janson left. 

I quickly made my way back to our bunks. "We've got to go right now."

"Thomas, calm down. What are you talking about?" Frypan tried to get me to calm down, but I knew we had to leave, now. 

"They're coming. We've got to go."

"Who's they?" Minho finally asked. 

"Ava is still alive. It's WICKED! We've got to go." The boys started to freak out and helped me block the door to give us some time. 

We made our way through the vents again and came out in a hallway. "I'm going to find Stacey!" Newt spoke up. 

"No, we don't have anytime. If there is one thing I know about her is she can protect herself." 

"I'm not leaving her behind. She doesn't deserve this!" He spat. 

"We don't have time to argue guys!" Minho shouted. "I will go with Newt. The rest of you can find our escape." The guys and I ran down the hall and turned a corner, running into a nurse. 

"What are you doing out?" She asked and alarms started going off. We grabbed her and started running again. 

*Newt's POV*

We finally made it to a door and I looked through the tiny window. There she was, standing there working on what looked like more tests. I busted the door open and she jumped. "Newt! What are you doing here? You've got to go!" She shouted quietly at us.

"You've got to come with us Stace!" I shouted back. "Please?" I begged her.

"I can't."

"Why?" She just went back to her work and didn't say anything. "Please tell me, why?"

"Newt," she fell quiet again and I placed my hand on top of hers. 

"Please," she finally looked up at me.

"I- I can't. I'm sorry." Tears started to form in my eyes. I was so hurt because she was hiding something and she didn't want to come with me. 

"Please Stacey." I squeezed her hand. "Come with us. It'll be okay."

"Newt we don't have much time." Minho shouted. 

"Go, I will cover for you guys. But please just leave me. Forget about me." Stacey kissed me softly. I looked at her one last time, full of hurt. Before I could say anything else Minho was pulling me out. 

We ran a down a few hallways and to a door. It opened as soon as we got to it and the others were on the other side. "Come on guys!" I shouted as soon as I saw Janson.

"You wouldn't survive a day out in the Scorch." Janson spoke. "I'm trying to save your life."

"WICKED is good right?" Thomas said and the others started running through the door. 

"Thomas! Run!" Winston shouted as the door started to shut.
