I pace up and down the jet as it flys smoothly in the air towards base.
Why did it have to be him. I thought he was dead, that we didn't have to deal with him anymore.
This and millions of other thoughts came crashing into my head as we flew in silence. I looked over to the man who was sitting quietly with his head and neck loose and hanging down in front of his chest and his hands placed lightly on his thighs. I sat down beside him and started wringing my hands together. I couldn't worry about Loki right now, right now I had to worry about this man and his family. I looked over at him. This was the first time I really noticed his features. He had soft, light brown tousled hair and deep chocolate brown eyes. He had a hard jaw line, high cheek bones and looked to be around 6'. He had tan skin and slight muscle. He would be really quite attractive if half his face wasn't bruised and bleeding.
"What's your name?" His sudden question caught me off guard and I hesitated.
"Cal," I answered, "Just call me Cal."
"David, just call me David."
"Where do you live David?"
"New Jersey, with my wife Helen and my two kids Ava and Ryan."
"Sounds-nice." I said, "Normal." He sighed and looked my direction. I could see the sadness in his eyes in misunderstanding. I looked away and closed my eyes, gave a huge sigh and stood up.
"We should be landing soon. When we get inside people will be there to ask you questions to help locate and safeguard your family."
A minute later we arrived on base. A small group of low ranking agents met us on deck and escorted us inside. They led David off some other hallway to be questioned and I went to the bridge. Three of the four walls were windows and all the space was covered with computers. In the center of it all was a big circle with a figure in a long black coat standing in the middle of it.
"You know I hate riding in those jets." I say sarcastically to the figure. He turns around and smirks at me.
"I know, that's why I made you stay." I rolled my eyes and walked up to him.
"So what are we going to do about Loki?"
"I have an idea," he said looking at me, "but I'll need your help."
"I'm happy to help but you know me. I only work with one person."
He gave me a warning look, I know what that meant.
"Oh no. No! NO!! I'm NOT working with them!" I yelled.
"Working with who?" Someone asked behind me. I turned around seething. I opened my mouth to yell at them either to mind their own business or tell them who I couldn't work with when I noticed who it was. Pale blue eyes stared at me, begging me to answer the question that still hung in the air. I took a big breath and exhaled quickly to keep me calm. I turned back to Fury, "We'll talk later." I stated bluntly and walked out of the room. I could feel two pairs of eyes staring at me as I left, Fury and Steve Rogers, Captain America himself.
I walked to the room that was always reserved for me while I was on base, though it was rarely used.
I went to my closet and pulled out athletic leggings and a tank top and went into the bathroom. I swapped out my jeans and plain black shirt with my gym clothes. I looked in the mirror and realized I had blood, dirt and grime covering my face and arms I decided to leave it there because I didn't care and I was just going to the gym.
I walked out of the bathroom and into my bedroom. I threw my hair up into a high pony tail and left. When I arrived at the gym I decided to warm up with yoga and then hit the punching bags. I was in the middle of my workout when Agent Hill came in over my earpiece, "We need you in the bridge meeting room now." I sighed and punched the bag one more time, breaking it and sending it to the floor to join the four others I had broken already. "On my way." I sat down on the bench and took a drink of water, wiped the sweat off my face and unwrapped my hands. Getting up I grabbed my stuff and walked out. When I reached the meeting room Fury and Steve were already there.
"What's going on?" I asked
"It's Loki," Fury states bluntly, "we found him."
"Where?"
"79% match in Stuttgart, Germany." replied Steve.
"Captain, Agent Cal, your up."
"Director-"
"Agent Cal, he is out at the moment you know that. Suck it up and deal with it! Now suit up!"
I turned on my heel and headed for my room.
