Cal POV
As I jumped out of the plane I heard a voice behind me calling my name. I felt my stomach drop as I plummeted towards the ground. Then I felt a hand grab my ankle. When I looked back I saw Steve with a horrified look on his face. I twisted around to grab his hands, when he looked me in the face I smiled.
"Be prepared!" I yelled. I tensed my back and felt my tank top and jacket rip as I let my wings extend to their full length. We jerked upwards as we slowed and then I felt the full weight of Captain America. I strained my arms to keep a hold of him and worked my wings extra hard to hold me up with the added weight. And by added weight I mean a freaking ton of bricks!
I looked down at Steve and saw a wide eyed look of terror and wonder.
"I can't hold us both up!" I yelled.
His face hardened and he nodded for me to drop him so I did. I arced away just enough to not get hit by his extended parachute. I flapped my wings so I would go up higher then I dived bombed down past Steve until I almost hit the ground. I whipped them out and coasted up a bit then landed gracefully on my feet, taking a few steps to slow my momentum. I folded in my wings and took a deep breath.
I looked around and saw a lot of damage already to the woods around us.
"Hey!" I yelled.
Tony and the Asgardian glared at me. I walked so I was in between the two of them.
"Look we're both on the same side. Ok, so Tony stop being an ass and put away your blasters, and um mister could you please set your hammer down."
"Oh no, he really loves his hamm-" Tony started but didn't get to finish because the Asgardian slapped him with his weapon.
"You want me to put my hammer down!" He yelled and he flys toward me with his hammer back behind him, ready to swing. Then a man is i front of me guarding me as the weapon is slammed down onto its target. I hear a loud whoosh and trees cracking and falling as a great wind is pushed outward. When I stand up and open my eyes and I realize the man was Steve Rogers. I look up at him, "Thanks for that."
"No problem," he says to me, "are we done here?" He asks the other two.
Soon we get Loki and board the jet one more time and head off to the base.
-------------------------------------------
Steve POVShe paced around the jet looking more worried than ever. Worry didn't sit well on her slim figure. It made the sleek muscles on her arms and back taunt and a frown on her grimy face. Her long, straight black hair was messy and tangled and her dark black eyes didn't gleam. I couldn't stop staring because I was still in shock of what I had learned not even an hour before. She had wings! She could fly! I couldn't fathom how that could happen. What had she gone through to receive those?
When we arrived at base she sprinted off before I could say anything. I sighed and walked out of the plane. A hand slapped my shoulder, making me jump a bit. It was Tony, "Come on, Fury wants us on the bridge."
A group of SHEILD agents came and picked up Loki to take him inside. As we walked I thought about my own experience of being a consensual lab rat. The process of becoming "super human" was terrible. It was painful and horrifying and tragic. I would never want someone to go through it like I did, especially someone like Agent Cal. I didn't even know if hers was consensual, if it wasn't I couldn't even begin to imagine the pain.
While lost in my own world I hadn't noticed that we had made it to the bridge. Some of the other Avengers were there but not all of them. They were having a conversation about thermonuclear astrophysics-something well above my pay grade. The one thing I could understand was that they were talking about Loki's scepter.
"That thing gives him all his juice, we keep him away from that and he's not going anywhere." I stated
"I don't think so," chimes in Dr. Banner, "I think that scepter is just a tool, he has his own powers but this does the most damage. At any rate it works about the same as the Tesseract-same radioactivity, same conductivity, same reactants, same everything only on a smaller scale. We scan his scepter, we find the Tesseract."
"Put it into action. Agent Romanoff could you show Dr. Banner to his lab and then get Agent Cal and go to the training and weapons room. Everyone else start heading to the training room as well, I think it's time for a bit of team bonding." Smirks Fury.
"I don't do "team bonding"." Stark sarcastically says.
"Well you better start. Agent Grant, Agent Smith can you please make sure all of the Avengers, besides Banner, make it to the training room."
"Yes Director." They answer and start leading us that way.
