Prologue

The darkness that surrounded her as she stood limply in her chains. She could feel the heat from the flames outside her cage as her dark eyes looked up. They say the eyes are windows to ones soul but when you looked into her eyes it was like seeing hell itself.

Her eyes were often mistaken as black but they were a dark brown with a hint of red to them. Her skin was as pale as snow, never seeing sunlight only surrounded by the coldness of night.

Her dark hair that fell loosely over her shoulders, tumbling down stopping at mid back, framed her oval face. A side fringe fell, as she looked up, out of her cage.

She could see a figure on the other side of the flames. As the figure moved only did she notice something. She breathed in deeply, human.

"Seraphina! Dinners ready!" A gruff voice yelled. The flames disappeared shortly after before the sounds of keys and a small click was heard.

Seraphina waited for the guard to unlock her before throwing the human male, quickly scurrying out, not wanting to be the next meal. She looked at the middle aged man, his blonde hair and brown eyes that shone with fear as he looked upon her.

"Please! Let me go! I-I don't want to die!!" He pleaded desperately. Seraphina sighed sadly as she looked down at the man. Her eyes started to glow a bright red with dark brown before red was only seen.

"It is not my choice to do this. I do not want this fate for you either," her voice was soft as she spoke, "I would help you but there is no way out of here." She continued, gesturing to the cage.

"W-why are you in here?" Seraphina looked at the man who now stood, hovering in the corner like a little child who was afraid. He's afraid. Yet he was brave enough to ask her why she was in this.

"My mother. My father." The mans eyes widened slightly, sympathy replaced his fear. She chuckled softly before she felt the familiar sensation of her gums stinging.

Her mouth curved into a sad smile, the two pearly white teeth was now sharpened. The man shivered in fear as he gazed upon the dark beauty.

She could hear his heart beat faster and see his muscles flex as he moved. The red eyes focused on his neck, watching the veins pump blood throughout his body.

"I'll make it fast, so it does not bring pain to you." Before the man could blink, Seraphina flashed in front, startling him and sank her teeth into the soft flesh of his neck. His muffled groans were silenced by her hand.

She snapped his neck to the side, drinking his life supply. She could feel his warm blood flowing through her body. Flashes of his life blurred together as she drank every drop.

Her eyes turned bloody when she watched his daughter die of cancer at a young age. His grief as his wife left him for another and finally when he had first seen her.

Red blood tears streamed down her face and when she finally let go of her late victims neck, she sobbed for him for the first time. She sobbed for what he went through with his daughter, his wife, and lastly his life.

She sobbed for the first time and actually felt something that brought tears to her eyes. She felt sympathy for a human. She had never cried before when she drained a young child or her other victims. Yet when she had seen what he went through, felt what he felt, she couldn't handle it.

She sat there thinking about her life. About her parents and her life before. The lives of her victims and what their loved ones must be feeling.

What felt like years when it was only a couple minutes, the sound of jingling keys and a small click before the same guard who had dropped off the human walked in.

He approached her slowly, glancing to his right. His movements were cautious as he gazed at the trapped beauty for his master. His only daughter. She was treated as an animal with a cage and her chains.

He felt pity for the girl but, he couldn't bring himself to help her. He watched as she stood up, dusting off the dirt from her silk dress, and moved her hands till each wrist touched. He grabbed his keys before he singled out a key for her chains.

It was small and made of gold. Small vines made twists and turns with the intricate small details of leaves here and there.

Seraphina felt a lone blood red tear fall before closing her eyes letting darkness consume her.
