Trigger warning

It's not very detailed but this work contains slight mention of childhood abuse, and a little stuff with a character's mental state crumbling. It might be triggering for some people, please read with caution.

Just as I was about to take my shoes

One step, two step... still silence echoes in the dead halls that had been filled with people a few minutes ago, most of the students had already left, even the club activities were postponed, leaving the school alone with it's empty hallways.

A petite figure meandered the long halls that appeared to be almost endless in this quiet atmosphere, her head was bowed low, deep grey eyes anchored upon a pair of shiny school shoes devoid of any dust, black and shiny, reflecting her downtrodden figure.

It was a pretty face, white and tender- Lin Jingshu deduced like all the other, her appearance could be summarised with two words; pretty and delicate. How nauseating- She sneered.

Thirteen ste- the young lady suddenly paused, cold eyes staring at the closed door of class 5 B. It was here, she presumes.

Months ago, on a day just like today, the school hallways were empty with no one in sight. Lin Jingshu was taking her usual walk down the empty halls, letting her mind relax and wander before she had to return to that cold place she called home, when she abruptly came to a stop.

Sounds of sobs. Someone was crying.

She stood outside the door for a few minutes, listening closely to the sound of pitiful sobs echoing down the quiet hallways. A girl huh, it was easy to deduce, soft whimpering , pitiful and gentle sound that will make any guy wish to make her feel better.

Lin Jingshu didn't feel anything.

But still.. she had a role to play. She pushed open the closed door, peered at the person hunched over the desk in front of the last. She waited awhile just calmly taking in the crying girl, she had two braids, and the way she cries is very subdued . At last, she made her way towards the crying person.

"Are you okay?" She wasn't, Lu Jingshu knew, it was only a formality anyway.

The girl blinked her tear streaked lashes, seeming to be shocked at the appearance of the beautiful girl in front of her. Lin Jingshu offered the girl with braid a subtle smile, morphing her eyes into carrying layers of gentleness they never possessed, gently pressing her palm over the girl's shoulder in a manner of comfort.

"Don't be afraid, there isn't anyone around." Lin Jingshu took out a pack of tissue from her backpack. "Here." She offered, passing the tissue over to the other girl.

The two of them sat there in silence, disturbed only by the rustling wind outside the classroom and the quiet sobs of the other girl.

The breeze blew past and the crying of the girl with braided hair ceased, now only soft hiccups caused from excessive crying could be heard.

Lin Jingshu finally spoke up again- "Do you wish to talk about it?"

The girl paused in midst of wiping her tears, seemingly baffled by the offer. She took a few minutes to contemplate it but eventually she did crave in. How easy. So innocent, believing the words of a complete stranger she had only seen on the hallways passing by. So young and naive. Unlike Lin Jingshu herself, who grew up too soon.
