two weeks later....
Roseanne sits alone in her apartment, almost all of the lights off, guitar in hand. It's been two weeks since her video with Lisa went viral- and not just viral, but number one trending on youtube for a week viral- and Lisa is back in Thailand, her phone taken away from her, and Rosie is in Melbourne, working on an album.
As if she could do anything at all not knowing if Lisa is okay or not.
Rosie thought back to her conversation with Lisa's dad. It had been not only a hard conversation, but terrifying. She had gone off at the King of Thailand about her love for his daughter, and what had he done next?
Said that if she loved Lisa, she would let her go.
That Lisa's reputation could still be salvaged. Lisa could announce herself to be bisexual, marry a man, and never speak of liking women again. That Rosie could let Lisa be happy and be Queen of Thailand like it was Lisa's destiny to be, and that Rosie could go on with her career, so long as she never saw Lisa again.
And Rosie had thought back to how selfish she had been to want Lisa this whole time- to jeopardize both of their lives over her stupid affections. If they would have been normal people- if Rosie had never become a singer, if Lisa had been born to any other family, things would have been different. They could have been together. Suddenly everything that Rosie had ever wanted seemed to have lost its shine- it was like the sweetest candy had gone sour right when she wasn't expecting it.
And she started to write a song.
My life's been magic, seems fantastic
I used to have a hole in the wall with a mattress
Funny when you want it, suddenly you have it
You find out that your gold's just plastic
Every day, every night
I've been thinkin' back on you and I
Every day, every night
I worked my whole life
Just to get right, just to be like
"Look at me, I'm never coming down"
I worked my whole life
Just to get high, just to realize
Everything I need is on the
Everything I need is on the ground.
Her amber voice filled up the empty apartment in the dark, and suddenly Rosie was transported to all of her best moments with Lisa. Ice cream and airports and matching rings and stolen kisses and limousines and backstage at a concert filled the blonde's mind as she sang until she hit the last note, at which point she breathed out and felt a sob come with it.
I love you, Lalisa. I will always love you. I just wish that we had lived those last few weeks as if it was our last. Because you never know when it is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Lisa frowned as her servants dressed her for yet another meeting with suitors. And by suitors, she meant the sons of influential Thai politicians who were some of the most annoying, obnoxious men she had ever met in her life.
And that was a pretty big deal. She had met a lot of disgusting men in her life.
With every twentysomething man who brought her flowers, Lisa could only think of Roseanne Park. Park Chaeyoung. Rosie Park. The only person who had ever seen her for her, except for maybe Jennie. But the bond she had with Rosie transcended any level of description- it was as if Lisa had only been half of a person until she met Rosie. Like she had been wandering around aimlessly until she found what made her whole.
And now she was here. Alone.
It was her father's fault and she knew it. She knew what he had said to Rosie on the phone- what had made Rosie tell Lisa that she had to go. And she would never forgive him for it.
"Princess Lalisa, you are ready," One of her servants said with a small smile. Lisa nodded, her black hair extensions swaying as she walked out of the dressing room and towards one of the palace's many sitting rooms, flanked by at least ten guards.
Another reminder that she could not escape from her father.
Lisa wasn't going to let this go, though. She wouldn't let Rosie go. This was not a stalemate with her father- no, not yet. She could still find a way to be with Rosie.
Plans swirled around in Lisa's head, but nothing stuck. She headed into the parlor, the guards closing the doors behind her and leaving her in there alone. They must be waiting outside until my suitor gets here, Lisa thought to herself. But Lisa was shocked to see somebody else in the room.
"Jennie?"
"Jennie, what are you doing here?" Lisa said, pouring some chai for her friend.
"I'm here to bust you out. Run away, and we'll go get Rosie and head to America. Jisoo is taking care of that right now. Lisa, we can go somewhere else and start over. Somewhere that your dad can't touch you." Jennie pleads, and Lisa looks into her best friend's warm eyes and feels a tear run down her face.
"Jen, I can't. I can't abandon the Thai people. They need a Queen that will fight for them, and fight for their rights one day. If I go, it's entirely possible that my father will have me banished forever, and all of the people like us in this country will suffer because of it. I can't."
"But you can, Lili! You can't put all of this on yourself. The monarchy here could crumble- we could fight for a democracy, and help the people that way-"
"Jennie, no." Lisa says, steel in her eyes as she looks at the other girl. "I can't ask the three of you to upend your lives to move to America with me."
"You aren't asking. I am." Jennie says, and Lisa's eyes go from steely to smiling.
"Then I'm in." She says, and with that, a plan begins to form.
"Okay, so one more time. How are we going to get me out of here?" Lisa asks, rubbing her head.
"It's going to be simple. We're just going to walk right out. Your guards will follow you and you'll just act like nothing's wrong, and refuse to explain yourself to them. I'll be dressed as a bodyguard alongside Jisoo, who can land here in a week or so, whenever she gets Rosie on board. We'll be the ones to take you onto the plane where Rosie will be waiting. Then we'll just fly away. Easy." Jennie says, finishing up her chai. "Really, it's quite simple."
"Sure. Okay. Fine. We can do this. I just have to last another week or so here, getting all packed. And you have an apartment in the US we can stay at?"
"Better. I bought a mansion in California last night."
"And what would you have done if I said no?" Lisa says, arching her brow.
"Took Jisoo on vacation." Jennie says with a laugh. Lisa looks at the other girl, a smile blossoming across her face as she thinks about how Jennie and Jisoo manage to be so happy together, so free of chaos despite being celebrities too. But they didn't have the royal factor, and were both constantly jetsetting anyways- getting their teams to sign a ton of nondisclosure documents and then sharing hotel suites every so often wasn't hard for them.
She was a little jealous, but more hopeful than anything. Because she knew that that could be her and Rosie, too. It would just take some work.
"Right. Okay. Let's do this." Lisa said with a smile.
