i have security clearance

i stirred in my sleep, after hearing footsteps coming down the hallway.

my eyes fluttered up to the ceiling, seeing the fan that was once spinning, had stopped sometime in the night.

it was daylight, and i could hear the soft drops of rain from the night before down from the roof and hitting the blades of grass on the ground.

i closed my eyes again and nudged jj who was snoring loudly and taking up the whole pull out couch beside me.

he groaned and shifted over, lying on his stomach, one arm dangling off of the bed.

"yo jj you been outside?"

i heard john b's voice and rolled over. i didn't want to wake up yet. though it was probably one or two in the afternoon.

"i have polio bro, i can't walk." he said groggily, burying his face in his pillow.

john b gave a slight chuckle and i heard the screen door open, and then close.

i decided it would be a good time to get up, since john b would most likely want to go fishing. fishing's good right after a storm.

i swung my legs over the bed and my feet hit the cold, cheap wood that was the floor. i slowly stood up, and made my way out to the deck, where i saw john b surveying the damage aggie had done last night.

"agatha did some work huh?" i said, stepping onto the slightly wet grass. trees had fallen, broken limbs were everywhere. the place looked like a mess. it would take ages to fix.

"yeah she did." john b said, beginning to take sticks out of the h.m.s pouge, the pouge boat we all used.

"watcha thinking?" i asked, walking over to him to help. though i already knew his answer.

"i'm thinking that storm surge pushed all the crabs out the marsh maze. all those drum are gonna chase the crab."

i nodded, but he had something scheduled today, "yeah but what about the dcs? wasn't that today?"

he shook his head, looking out towards the marsh, "nah. they're not getting on a ferry." he turned around and picked up another stick out of the boat, "come on, think about it. it's god telling us to fish."

i smiled, but before i could say anything, jj answered for me, "hell yeah he is. i say we catch some crab!"

i smiled at the boys, knowing i wasn't going to get out of a day of fishing with them.

"you in?" john b asked, holding his hand out.

i smiled, and put my hand to his, doing our annual pouge handshake, "hell yeah."

"yeah, it's kinda a smugglers boat." jj said, taking to john b about a tipped over boat beside us. i wasn't listening though. i was thinking about last night.

rafe knew too much about me. he was too nice. and i didn't know if he was being serious about inviting me to a kook party.
