Beep beep beep beep beep!

I shot up out of bed. I could not be late. I had a tactical intelligence training course first thing this morning. I threw on my uniform (it was basically normal clothes, but everyone around here wears the same thing, so we call it a uniform). I ran a brush through my long, wavy brown hair and snapped it back into a warrior-like ponytail. I brushed my teeth and raced off to breakfast.

My life had turned crazy busy the second I came here. Our schedule was packed with training all day long. It was hard work, but I loved it. I finally felt actually somewhat useful. We learn so much everyday. Personally I love the strategic planning and hand to hand combat courses.

I ate breakfast and raced off down the hall to the tactical intelligence classroom, which was in the East wing of the base, opposite from the dorms. I skidded into class and sat down just as the teacher walked in. "I'll catch you someday, Skylar..." He muttered disapprovingly.

I smirked. He can try, but he'll never catch me. With one last glare at me, he turned and began writing today's topic of focus on the board. I chuckled quietly and pulled out my notebook. Carefully I flipped to the tactical intelligence section. Our notebooks are preorganized when they are given to us so that we keep each section separate. I looked up at the board and saw "ESPIONAGE" written on the board in big letters.

I perked up a little. This should be interesting. Espionage is a key part of being a secret agent.

"Alright, class, listen up!" Shouted Agent Dunbar, the agent teaching our tactical intelligence class. "Today we will be learning about espionage, as you can see."

He proceeded to launch into a long description of successful spies, strategies they use and missions that are successful thanks to espionage. I could see everyone around me looking bored, but I was totally captivated. I sat there in awe for the hour long class, soaking up every little bit of the information, just like a sponge. Sadly, it couldn't last forever. The hour was up too soon, and class was over. Sighing, I got up to leave. Just then, an agent who's name I didn't know raced into the room.

"Everybody listen up!" he shouted.

Everyone sat bolt upright. After taking the same classes day after day, it was nice to finally have something exciting.

"We have a code red alert! The agent screamed. "I need all of the adults in the briefing room immediately!" He paused for a second before continuing, "and bring the kids, too, it'll be a good experience for them."

I shot up out of my seat and raced after him. "Well, aren't you eager..." He said, smirking at me.

"I just want to get as much training as possible." I said coldly.

He looked at me approvingly. "You know, kid, you'll make a good agent someday."

Just then, we got to the 'briefing room'. I moved to go inside, but Agent Dunbar ran up. "No trainees allowed in the briefing room, Skylar!!" He bellowed. "You kids can all wait out here. Adults only."

The agent I had been talking to saw the crestfallen look on my face. "Naw, let her come in. Agent Foxten, by the way." He said, winking at me.

Agent Dunbar looked like he had been slapped. "B-b-b-but, b-b-b-but, but no kids allowed in the briefing room..."

Agent Foxten smiled. "She seems keen enough. Let her come in. It'll be a good experience. Skylar, right?" He looked at me for confirmation and I nodded once. "Excellent! Come on in, Skylar".

I smirked at Dunbar and followed Agent Foxten into the briefing room. There were monitors all over the walls and a large conference table in the middle of the room. There were important-looking agents all clustered around one of the monitors, looking at camera footage of an attack.

" Our Midwest force is under attack." The agent sitting at the desk announced, by way of briefing.

I watched in awe as the adults all began talking at once, trying to come up with a solution. Seeing that they were stuck, I blurted out the one idea in my mind. "What if you sent out two teams, one to approach from the front, distracting the enemy and reinforcing the team under attack, and the second to approach from the rear and take them by surprise?" It was a tactic I had heard described in some of my classes.

The agents all looked at me approvingly, then shouted orders into their earpieces, commanding attack teams be sent out to try my strategy. Once all the teams had been deployed and the preparations for the attack made, Agent Foxten came over to where I was sitting at the conference table. He leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "Follow me."

He led me out of the briefing room and down several, long twisty hallways into the office of a very important looking man. Grinning at me, he turned to the man whose office we had just entered and declared, "This one belongs in the advanced class."

A/N:

Oh my god guys I feel so terrible! This is a super short and terrible chapter and it took me like an entire month to write it. Thank you all for reading and I am so sorry for taking so long ugh. Now their back story is mostly finished so things will get more interesting from here on out. I will try not to keep you guys waiting so long, and when I do, hopefully it'll be for chapters that are actually good, not awful like this one.
