"Come on Abi, you can do this. Just walk in there with your head held high and show them you're better than the rest of them.... Come on, nothing is gonna hurt you anymore. You can do this."
First days are always the hardest. I've learned that well enough. I switch schools and cities twice a year, since I was in grade eight. After a while, I learned not to have close relationships with the people at my schools. I'll just end up leaving them at the end of the year, or they turn on me. It's not my fault though. It follows me everywhere I go, like some sort of demon I just cant shake off. I don't know how it follows me. I've deleted every social network I had, got rid of my phone completely when changing my number didn't work. But they still find out. Every time. And no one ever believes the truth.
Look around the crowded hallways. Looks like most other schools I've been to. Lockers students, you can clearly pick the princesses out from the crowd. Laughing in their stiletto heels with their skimpy outfits and noisy jewellery. I cant believe I was once like that. Then there's the geeks, the jocks, the nobodies, and those people that just blend into the back ground. These are the people i'm stuck with for the next 5 months. Lucky me.
I maneuver my way through the crowds of people until i find the office. when I walk in there's a crinkled up little old lady sitting behind the desk. She gives me my schedule, locker info, and a map of the school. Its a big school alright, easy enough to get lost in. But I'll manage. I've managed this way for the past 3 years now.
As I'm walking down the crowded hallways to my locker, I get the eerie feeling that I'm being watched... It's probably just first day jitters. I shake it off, nothing to worry about. Immersed in my own thoughts I barely notice whats happening before I go barrelling into some one.
"I'm sorry" I look up into the most captivating blue eyes i've ever seen.
"It's okay," he says with the most adorable smirk I've ever seen. "Here's your book. You like Tolstoy?"
"Yea. My name's Abi by the way"
"I'm Kyle, it's very nice to meet you Abi. Is it you first day at West Montgomery?"
"Yea, it is. The school's so big, its kind of intimidating."
"Well allow me to be your personal guide," he says with a grin. "First off, whats your locker number?"
"Uhhhm two eighty-six"
"Ahhh perfect. That's the same hallway as mine. Looks as though we'll be seeing a lot of each other," he says with a wink in my direction. "Come on your locker's this way."
