Various of shops filled each side of the street, crowds of people walked pass and by, many had their hands occupied with paper bags while some were simply window shopping. Yuuta—a lad with hair the same color as crow’s feathers—was part of those who had their hands full of goodies.

His stomach was growling. Thus, he decided for something to fuel his empty stomach. Walking past the corner, he entered the nearest department store and saw rows of onigiri neatly placed on the counter. It caused a subtle smile to bloom across his face. Wasting no time, Yuuta took two pieces of onigiri—one tuna mayo and konbu flavored—before approaching the cashier counter.

“I’m sure Toge hasn’t eaten yet. He will be happy to receive it,” came his comment, satisfied. Handing the money, he muttered a small ‘thank you’ for the exchange before exiting the store.

 “Yuuta!”

The lad turned his head by the familiar voice he heard. In front of him, he could see Maki and Panda approaching his way while waving their hands. He welcomed them with a smile and waved back despite bags of goods in his hands—at least he tried.

“What are you doing?” Maki asked, eyeing those shopping bags with curiosity.

“Shopping by yourself, Yuuta? That’s rare,” Panda continued with same curiosity laced on his face.

Yuuta merely let a sheepish laughter escaped his lips. He nodded while scratching his cheek, a disappointed look displayed on his visage. “I bought them for Toge. He couldn’t come with me today too. It’s the third time,” the explanation was followed with a sigh.

Out of sudden, it was silent.

“Why do you two have those grim face? It’s fine! I’ll ask Toge again next time,” Yuuta waved his hands again, an attempt to tell them that it was not a big deal.

 That he was alright.

That everything had to be alright.

 “Yuuta!”

The exclamation was Maki’s. The girl couldn’t stand his friend to be like that. Someone had to slap him awake. So, she did. She grabbed Yuuta’s collar before landing a hard slap right at his face.

“Toge is dead! Why can’t you just let him go?!”

And with that, Yuuta could feel his heart shattered into tiny pieces. Maki’s words pierced him way more painful than the stinging pain on his cheek.

Even so, he still refused to wake up.

“No, Maki. He is still around. He is with Rika and me.”
