"I'll miss you, Audrey, we can't change your mind, can we?" Lucy was standing in the doorway, her eyes a pair of blue were now glassy from crying.
"You know I'll call you when I get there." I prepared two suitcases for a summer vacation I would be having in Sydney. But if I felt like I belonged to be there then it wouldn't be just for a summer vacation. This was the time where I needed to take a time off for everything. I pictured myself standing at the seashore, waves crashing onto my feet one after another, salty air filled my lungs as the sunlight hit against my skin. I have always dreamed to live on an isolated island, my house at the top of the hill that gave a clear view of the sea. For me, nothing felt more home than living beside the sea.
"I have this feeling that I won't be hearing from you again." There was a hint of melancholy by the way she said it.
I turned to face her and smiled. If I couldn't do this I know there would be no next time. Sometimes, we needed to follow our intuitions even if it led us down the wrong path. Otherwise, you'd always be second-guessing yourself. I know I needed to be there. I know something was waiting for me out there. If I didn't find it myself, there was no way of knowing.
"Audrey, my daughter, " my mother entered the room. She was in her late fifties, white threads of hair could be seen from her black dyed hair. I walked towards her direction and hugged her. I pushed back the tears that were threatening to fall.
"Be safe on your way there, okay? Mommy's going to miss my baby, " she said and she caresses my back. I was a Momma's girl.
"Mom, I'm already 22, " I snorted.
"Still, you'll forever be my baby. " We broke the hug and after I regained my courage, I left them.
To be continued.
