Some moments of life pass in the blink of an eye.

In a split second, your life direction might turn into another voyage.

Did I regret my decision?

Glaciers.

His eyes were glaciers as the light emitted from the poles bathed his face in the middle of the tar-black night sky, confirming his identity.

Clouds spat small beads of water as his cold stare peered into mine and he aimed at me without a speck of hesitation and shot.

My body instinctively ducked with the puppy still in my arms.

My hood fell, undoing my poorly made bun, letting out wet strands of hair blown everywhere and sticking to my face.

As I fell into a pool of murky rainwater with a splash, the grime liquid spattered everywhere as the murmuring of rain mixed with the swoosh of gales rang in my ears.

CRACK

Out of the corner of my eyes, my trembling vision picked up beams of light darting and Lorenzo's blurry silhouette dashing past me and elbowing a figure in the face which was standing behind me.

"DON'T LOOK BEHIND! TURN AROUND"

His voice roared like thunder as kicking sounds and the cracking of bones was heard.

The epiphany made me dizzy and too feeble to protest at his command as sudden ultraviolet flare beams sparked into my field of vision with an ear-piercing sound.

'' Sir? '' my groggy voice was thick with concern as he didn't respond and the ruffling of wet cloaks echoed in the sinister night.

'' SIR PLEASE! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE, WE COULD BE SURROUNDED '' I exhorted desperately

My body refused to turn around
and face the unknown happening behind my back but from the same unknown, a pair of powerful arms wrapped around my trembling ones from behind.

A familiar scent instantly wrapped around me as I felt my fear evaporate like water under the new summer sun.

'' You. Why did you do this? Do you know what kind of danger you put yourself into?''

He turned and held my elbows, scanning my face for visible injuries with blazing eyes brimming with concern.

His dampened gloved fingers wrapped around my small wrists, pulling me closer as his broad tall frame shielded me from the slight sprinkle of rain

'' Sir I am sorry, I was worried.. ''my heart skipped a beat at the sudden touch

Droplets of moisture both from sweat and rainwater glided all over my body as his grip tightened and I wasn't sure whether he meant to embrace me or the puppy which was still enveloped in my arms.

The only form of comfort I have  known came from the kind words of Aimée or the headbutts from my cat.

Being wrapped in a physical cocoon of safety felt bizarre, especially since the cocoon was the most powerful man in the city.

He didn't care how his clothes got tattered with specks of mud derived from my squalid ones and we stood frozen for a while until I regained my composure and the rhythm of my breath returned to normal.

Running feet splashed in the many puddles of rainwater as I discerned blurry figures dressed in black rushing towards us and turning their back at us while pointing their guns at the gloom in front of them.

My dampened toes mushed together inside my shoes stung probably due to blisters, making it painful to take one step but I still preferred to stand on my own as I jerked back and carefully handed him the puppy who was relishing the warmness of my embrace.
