"Mrs. Bradford," He whispered, shocked while I just kept on looking at him. The last time I had seen him was in the club that night where we got drunk high and called Mr. Bradford numerous names. Was I dreaming or was he for real?
I looked at Abira who looked as confused as an old sack of potatoes. My mind numbed as I looked amidst Abira and Richard while Abira was looking at me and the man in front of me.
"Richard," I mumbled, staring at him. My heart almost leaped out at the sight of him. For me, he looked like an angel whom god had sent to help me.
My chest tightened with the unknown, surging emotion. There was a contradict going inside me. One part of me wanted to slap him hard on the behalf of his cruel, heartless boss whereas another part of me wanted to hug him for giving me happiness unknowingly.
"Ri–Rich?" Abira called, frowning at him.
He flinched, breaking through his trance. He turned his confused gaze at her and whipped his head back to me.
"Come, we are leaving, Abira." He ordered, holding his hand out for her.
Not so soon, Richie boy.
"But why?" She interjected, looking at him in disbelief. He turned his gaze back at her sharply, making her shut her mouth.
Are all the men of same dominant blood?
She bit her lips and looked at me with guilty eyes. I exhaled as I could my lips turning up in a smirk.
"Why so much hurry, Richard?" I asked, raising my eyebrow slightly. He gulped and looked away, grabbing hand of his wife and whisking her away from me.
"You won't even answer me? Forget about it, I want you to sit where you should have as usual." I spoke and turned my head, lifting my leg and positioning it on my knee.
Now, I totally looked like a badass girl.
I smiled when I didn't hear his footsteps, means he didn't run out. I heard him sigh heavily, making me inhale with satisfaction.
My heart felt bubbly with the amount of feelings it held. I wanted to eyes in happiness, wanted to tell world that Caitlyn King got was very near to her aim. Just one step away.
"I can't help you in any way, Mrs. Bradford," I heard Richard stutter while I narrowed my eyes at Xavier who was quiet all along.
"Xavier, ask your brother in law to sit right now otherwise," I looked at him sharply and smiled, "You will remain jobless for next five years of life. Even your brother in law's employer won't be able to hire you."
His face scrunched in confusion, disbelief and slight fear. A hearty thanks to my husband who made me crave for more and more. He increased my hunger for power to the point where I almost left no chances of grabbing each and every opportunities.
"Richard," He sighed, ignoring my deadly stare.
A low chuckle escaped my mouth when I heard his knuckles crack. He came in the lioness' den on his own but he would leave when I would desire.
"Xavier, come along. She won't be able to do anything." He hissed, gritting his teeth.
Xavier looked troubled while Abira, my friend could not make head or tail out of our talks.
"She is my employer! I can't lose my job. Your boss does not hire architects, Richard." He argued, shaking his head and scowling at Richard.
Richard's jaw clenched while he looked ready to jump at Xavier anytime soon. I sighed, tired of useless talks.
