A/N: kinda made ip my own little call scenario for this chapter. The idea came from an episode of Station 19.
Valyn's POV:There was a four alarm fire downtown. The first shift at station 118 was there all day and needed rest so even if it was our day off, we were coming in to replace them.
It is my third shift with the 118. I still don't have a car so when I got the message that we would replace the first shift and most likely be called to the fire in the next hour, I threw on my shews and a jacket and ran the six blocks to the station. It took me about twenty minutes to get there and by the time I arrived everyone else was there talking about the fire.
"Sorry if I'm late." I exclaimed running into the station. By then everyone turned to look at me.
"Why are you out of breath?" Buck asked
"I just moved to L.A. and I still don't have a car so I ran here dumb-ass." I said jokingly.
"Okay Jeez." Cried Buck.
"So whats the status on the fire?" I asked the Cap.
"Every department in the city is there now except us and four other stations. The fire is on the twenty-sixth floor and there are thirty floors. Keep in mind this is an office building so only people who are injured are currently being evacuated. Everyone else is on the twenty-second floor. Thats all we know so far. Chief will fill us in when we get there. Expect to be leave in the next 20-30 minutes so if you need to eat, eat. If you need to sleep, sleep. We could be there all night. Lopez."
"Yeah Cap?" I asked.
"Care to refresh their minds on the rules for five alarm fires? I'm going to go keep an eye on the news."
"Okay." Is all I managed to say.
Cap walked up to the second floor and I took over.
"Okay so the rules of five alarm fires. Stay in groups of three and don't leave your group. Five alarms in large office buildings are unpredictable. Last time I worked a fire almost exactly like this, my station decided it was a bright idea to go off on their own which ended up with one guy being caught in a flashover and one guy with a piece of glass in his heart. They were smart enough to both survive but I am still not completely sure about you two." I said pointing at Buck and Eddie. Chim and Hen burst into laughter. You could see that Buck and Eddie were a little annoyed at this comment but chuckled anyways and I continued.
"Anyways, Elevators can be ridden just as long as it's not past the fire floor. After that, use the stairs. Use extinguishers wisely and before the hose. Its more difficult to carry a hose around the fire floor not to mention more difficult to get large amounts of water into the building at once. I think that pretty much covers it." I say and they all nodded.
"How many five-alarms have you worked? Buck asked.
"I think I have worked around 12-13."
"Damn- thats a lot." Buck responded.
"I have been doing this for ten years, with that much time on the job, it's not as much as you would think."
The alarms rang.
Engine 118, truck 118, ambulance 118, (A/N I dont know the exact numbers of the truck s and ambo so just deal with these) five alarm fire on 5432 Kentucky street (first street name that came to mind). We piled into the trucks and rolled out of the Station.
We got there in less than 5 minutes and by that time it was dark. I checked my phone before getting out of the truck and the time read 5:09 pm. I jumped out of the truck and joined the team. The incident commander was busy filling us in. We were told to head up to the 22nd floor and to help out where needed . We piled into two elevators. I was in one with Buck and Eddie meanwhile, Hen, Chim, and Cap were in the other. We made it up to the 22nd floor where we were met with the fire chief.
