Belle was odd, to say the least.
"So, who is she and why do I need to watch her?" Luke asked. "Her name is Belle, can you please just watch her? She doesn't like being alone." Luke's new neighbor, Jen pleaded. "Okay, I'll watch her. Just what do I do?" Luke asks. "Just be in the apartment, she probably won't talk to you, she will most likely stay in her room." Jen said, "Alright, I gotta go, just please, stay in there with her." Jen hurridley packing her to purse and pulling me into a quick hug, then racing out of the hall.
I stood in front of apartment number 24, key in my hand. Contemplating going in or just leaving and going back to my apartment, number 23. Alas, I slid the key into the hole and turned until the door sprang open. Revealing an apartment fairly similar to mine. Same furniture layout, same furniture, same neutral, gray colors. It wans't until I stepped fully through the doorframe, that I heard a small voice. "one hundred seventy-eight, one hundred seventy-nine, one hundred eighty." And so on. I followed the voice back through the kitchen to a secluded hall, walking back towards the door at the end, where a sliver of light shined through the semi-open door.
I slowly opened the door at the end of the hall, preparing for the worst. But, once I entered the threshold. I was taken aback. Sitting cross-leggedly one the perfectly made white bed, was a girl that looked about my age, counting, her fingers laced together while she stared at her blank wall. "Two hundred-seven, two hundred-eight"
I cleared my throat quietly. Her head whipped around, her mousy brown hair flying in front of her face. "Hello." She said.
"Hello." I answered quietly.
'Hello." She said again.
"Hi?" I repeated confusedly.
"Sorry." The girl before me said, lowering her gaze to the floor.
"It's okay. I'm Luke, I live across the hall." I said, my eyes fixed on her.
"Hello, Luke." She said, meeting my gaze.
"Was there a reason you repeated yourself?" I asked, confusion painting my brow.
"Yes, but no. I mean there was a reason, but, it is too stupid so, no." She said. "Just tell me." I said, curiously. 'Well, it was just because, it did not sound right the first time, or the second time." She said. "Oh, okay." I said, chuckling. "I am Belle. I like to read, but, it takes me a while. Because, I have to count the letters in each page." She said, "I am sorry, that was out of place, I apoligize." "No need. Do you want me to read to you sometime?" I said. "That would be extraordinary." She said, a smile
