~Chapter 6~ First Impressions [pt 3]
"Hahaha." Lorn chuckled as he stared off into the darkness in the direction his prey had gone.
"I'm sorry, Master, but you'll have to excuse me for not comprehending the humor this situation offers."
Lorn wanted to laugh again at the impatience in Bray's voice, but refrained.
"His name...Chris Maibot."
"Chris Maibot?"
"Indeed." Lorn said as he walked past Bray unperturbed.
"But...I don't..."
"Chris Maibot." Lorn said once again, not wanting to believe his friend could not understand the hidden meaning in the name when said properly.
"Now come on, before someone finds us."
"No one will come here, Master, the one who had claim over her just ran away."
"He wasn't the claimer." Lorn said matter-of-factly as he ascended the side of the building.
Bray said nothing, accepting his master's judgment as true.
"Chris Maibot." Bray whispered feverishly, then something finally registered in his head because the previous tension had finally cleared.
"Kiss my butt." He breathed, not finding it funny at all, and yet, as if on cue, his master began laughing once again.
He didn't look back.
He didn't know whether he was being pursued.
All he knew was that he had to keep running.
That's exactly what he did: ran.
As he jumped from rooftop to rooftop, Chry's only thoughts were getting as far away from Lorn as he possibly could.
"Hey you!!"
Chry momentarily looked over in the direction where the unexpected voice had come from.
Over on a rooftop no less than twenty feet from the roof Chry was on, was none other than Lee. Making sure no one else was in the vacinity, Chry went over to confront Lee.
"What are you doing here?"
"Well, kid, I've got a claim of my own I had to attend to, she goes to bed real early, I suppose it's due to old age and all." Lee smiled half-heartedly.
"Look, we can't stay here, we have to get back underground."
"And why ever would I do a thing like that when we still have so much time left to be out here in the fresh air?"
"Because..." Chry hesitated, wondering if he should explain the situation to Lee.
Lee gave Chry a look that encouraged him to continue.
"Because someone's chasing me."
"Who?"
Sometimes it bothered Chry how nonchalant Lee always pretended to be.
"I'm not entirely sure, he's powerful though and....there's something else..."
"Well, come on kid, we haven't got all night."
"He...drank from someone elses claim."
"Well I'll be!" Lee interrupted as he got to his feet, planning to greet the one who had nerve enough to disrupt the peaceful balance the town had finally found over the last couple decades.
"What are you doing?" Chry asked anxiously, not wanting Lee to get involved in something that he would not be able to handle.
"I'm going to go give our little newcomer the right town welcome...and then, I'm gonna kick his butt." Lee said, not paying attention to Chry's hand on his chest, trying to hold him back.
