Frank's POV
"Wait wait, so you're telling me that you just bolted after you didn't see her? You didn't even leave a message or anything?", Annabeth asks me incredulously, making gestures with her hands at how stupid I was.
To be honest, she wasn't wrong. I kept thinking about what happened, and I knew I should've left a message. But, I do have a good reason for not doing that.
"I know, I know. But it's a good thing though, this whole thing was just...not a practical idea anyway", I tell her, trying to sound convincing but I don't believe the words myself.
And Annabeth, who's been one of my best friends for almost 3 years, doesn't believe it either. She stares at me like she does whenever I drink a milkshake, like I'm completely crazy.
Technically anyone who sees me drinking milkshake makes that face since I have a weird and apparently wrong way of drinking milkshake.
And it especially didn't do me any favours since I stained my white shirt while drinking it 2 days ago, before I had to leave for a wedding. The worst part of it was that Hazel noticed it.
Hazel, who no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop thinking about. Her golden eyes, shimmering with light, and her wild coily hair. Something in my mind kept nagging at me to go to the flower shop again; to see her again.
"Oh really? And how do you know that it's not a good idea? You told me that you felt an instant connection with her, and you know what I always say", she tells me, giving me a pointed look that I know all too well.
"'You never know what will happen unless you actually try it', I know, it's your life motto", I told her with a sigh. She looked at me expectantly, knowing there was more to it, that I wasn't telling her.
"I already tried, Annabeth. She wasn't there then, and there's no point going and bothering her. I just happened to cross paths with her, and even though I wish there was more to it, there isn't. Let's just leave it", I huffed out the words at the end, since my words slapped reality into me.
"Okay", Annabeth replies softly, sensing how I feel about this topic. I was thankful for her dropping it, but it also made me a little suspicious because Annabeth Chase never backed away without a fight.
Annabeth's POV
I didn't drop it. I couldn't. I left the topic with Frank, but I knew I had to do something about it on my own.
I know I shouldn't meddle with his life, but the way he talked about Hazel, the light in his eyes everytime he talked about her, I hadn't seen him like that in a while. Not since his mom died.
So I took matters into my own hands, and decided to pay the little flower shop a visit myself, to see who Hazel was and clear up all the misunderstandings.
However when I got to the flower shop, I didn't see anyone except a tall guy with messy jet black hair and the most vibrant green eyes I've ever seen. I guessed that he was Percy, the guy Frank had met when he had gone to see Hazel.
"Hi welcome to- oh", he stopped mid sentence when he saw me. He just stopped and stared at me, while I stared right back at him, holding his gaze. He snapped out of whatever trance he was in when he realised I had spoken.
"Is Hazel here? My name's Annabeth, I'm Frank's friend and I need to talk to her"
This instantly made him narrow his eyes a little and put his guard up. It made me question if he was related to hazel in any way...maybe her boyfriend...?
"Hazel's not here right now, she went home since her shift ended. But I'm her brother, Percy, I can pass on a message to her", he said, still with his eyes narrowed but in a more curious way instead.
And then it made sense why he was wary of me and also probably of Frank. I debated whether or not I should explain the situation, and decided that I could actually use his help since he was the closest to Hazel.
Hopefully he decided to help me out after I told him everything, or else this could all end very badly...
