soonyoung and jihoon have been rivals since they were in diapers. their mothers are best friends so they basically grew up together. usually, people who "grew up together" are friends, best friends, or even lovers but in this case, they were neither.
growing up together, hate and rivalry grew instead of friendship. having the same interests didn't help stop the competition. now that they're in college, being in the same course, same classes, same dance troupe made things even worse.
breaktime is the only time where the two are not together and they are very glad about it. jihoon is seated with his friends at a table located in the corner of the cafeteria.
"why do you hate soonyoung so much?" seungcheol, one of his friends, said out of the blue.
"i've been stuck with him for years, seeing the same face every day can get pretty tiring. i'll literally pay millions of dollars just to be away from him."
"do you have to be with him longer today?" joshua, another friend of his, questioned.
"obviously, we even share the same room because our mothers are friends with the principal here and they want us to "lookout" for each other."
"what if you just like him? then you covered it with hatred since you don't want it to show so you won't get rejected." seungkwan told the other with a smirk on his face.
"now that's just bullshit, kwan," jihoon said as he got up to walk out of the cafeteria.
bullshit.
what seungkwan said was bullshit according to jihoon. he likes to think that way. to think that what he feels for the other is just hate and nothing more.
he went to his next class earlier than expected. he wanted some alone time before he spends the whole day with the person he hates the most. even in this class, they're seatmates. the professor said it'll be easier if they arrange themselves alphabetically.
kwon and lee were right next to each other in the arrangement. jihoon has speculation that the universe hates him, that's why he's suffering.
he was minding his business when a familiar figure came to the room. "why the fuck are you here?" he said, massaging his temple. this is causing his headaches.
the latter didn't reply. instead, he handed over a bottle of water.
"are you trying to poison me?" jihoon glared.
soonyoung rolled his eyes in annoyance, "shut up and drink it. you've been massaging your temple since the first period so i figured you're having a headache."
jihoon felt his heart flutter at the concern of the other. he didn't want it to show so he simply opened the bottle and drank the water. he managed to finish it all in one go.
"i wasn't expecting that," soonyoung said, seating down beside him.
jihoon threw the bottle in his bag and responded, "you are the reason why i'm having headaches, kwon"
"am i driving you crazy, lee?" soonyoung said with a smug grin.
"oh, shut up" the younger pulled out the bottle from his bag and threw it to the other.
the classroom started to fill up with students. soonyoung became busy with his notes that bothered jihoon a little bit. he wanted attention. not from anyone else besides soonyoung. he picked up a book from his bag to distract himself.
after a few hours of suffering, their classes for that day ended. right now, they're in the dance studio. luckily for them, even though they're in the same dance troupe, they led two separate units.
the university was only able to provide a small practice room so the units took turns to practice their choreographies. the student council gave them a task to practice the same choreography with a mix of their styles. then unit that has the best version will perform at an upcoming event.
it was jihoon's team's turn to practice. it started smoothly until jihoon made eye contact with soonyoung in the mirror. the other was watching his every move. he aware that his skills are great but when he saw the other look at him, emotionless, he felt something was wrong with his moves.
