she wakes you for cuddles

The hours have dragged by since you and Dianna decided to call it a night and came up to bed almost three hours ago. She'd found it difficult to fall asleep so far, finding herself counting sheep and lying still with her eyes closed to hopefully help her drift away.

Finally, she feels herself falling fast asleep. You're wrapped in her arms and your head is resting comfortably on her shoulder. The warmth of your body and the lack of sleep finally catching up with her were lulling her to sleep. Her eyes were closed and she was just about to fall into a deep sleep when she suddenly felt you roll out of her arms.

Her eyes opened right away and a rush of cool air hit her skin as you took most of the blanket along with you. She let out a heavy sigh and tried to curl up with what she had, but the comfort she once felt was gone now that you were no longer wrapped in her arms.

The thought of waking you made her feel terrible, especially since you had a long day and could use the deep sleep you're currently in. But she knew falling asleep without you in her embrace was gonna be nearly impossible, especially since she's longing to hold you tight.

She reached over and dropped her hand gently against your back. She shook you slowly, feeling her heart melt a little when a few soft sounds escaped from your lips as you opened your eyes and then craned your neck to gaze back at her as she whispered your name in the darkness of the bedroom.

"Dianna?" You mumbled sleepily and glanced at the clock on the wall. "It's three in the morning. Why are you waking me up?"

"Sorry, my love." She apologized and rubbed your back. "You don't have to stay awake. I was just wondering if you'd like to cuddle? I haven't been able to sleep and I was just about to get there when you rolled out of my arms. I just don't think I can sleep if you're not cuddling me."

Despite how sleepy you felt, her sweet words still made you smile.

"You know I'm always happy to cuddle." You said and moved to lay back in her arms.

Your head rested against her chest instead, your legs tangling with hers right away. She found herself reaching for your hand and intertwining your fingers with her own while her other one gently scratched your head.

"I love you." She whispered softly. "Go back to sleep."

"You'll be okay? You're gonna go to sleep now too?"

It made her smile to know that you cared even through your sleepy daze. You were staring up at her and she could tell that you were trying so hard to fight to keep your eyes open.

"I can stay awake with you if you want me to."

No, you couldn't. You were much too tired. But still, the offer made her melt.

"I'm okay. I'm tired too and I can sleep now that I'm holding you again. So go back to sleep."

You nodded tiredly and closed your eyes. Your lips parted, soft breaths falling from them and onto her skin.

"Love you." You mumbled and, before you drifted back off to sleep, heard her say,

"I love you more, my girl. Sweet dreams."

She watched you drift off to sleep before she put her head back against the pillow and closed her eyes. She quickly fell asleep, smiling to herself as she hoped that you'd be in her dreams tonight.
